    Back from Guntersville>>>>>WOW!!

just returned last night from the big G. all i can say is wow! this is the best fishing i have ever been a part of. there are fish all over that lake and they are very mean and very big! here is a day by day outline of the craziest trip i have ever been on!

Tuesday- we arrived at 5:45 in the morning after driving all night. my brother and his partner were in his boat as well. we fished approximately 4 hours. my partner and i boated 9 with 4 keepers and they were nice 3 pound range keepers. these came on a spinnerbait. we thought we were doing ok until we talked to my brother. they had caught over 30 and both had their limit. they had 2 over 4lbs. they were running rattletraps through the grass on a big flat. we napped and went back out that evening for a few more hours. my partner and i caught two more keepers and few more non keepers. my brother and his partner boated over 30 more with 5 more keepers all from the same spot.

Wednesday- was crazy. it will be remebered not for the fishing though.we started the morning about the same. however we were fishing a few hours and the weather started getting bad. while fishing, a voice comes over a loudspeaker from somewhere. it says SEEK SHELTER NOW! SEEK SHELTER NOW! well my partner and i about fill our pants b/c we thought God was speaking from somewhere. as we fly back to our campsite. tornado sirens start blaring. u talk about poop running down someones leg. im from southern ohio and we have never experienced anything like this. as we tie the boat up and the rain becomes very heavy. we sprint to the bathouse to seek shelter. it is filled with the other residents of the campground. as they are listening to the radio, a woman claims it will be here in 9 minutes. i thought are u kidding me?? God speaks again from the loudspeaker again. i could not believe this was happening on my vacation. anyway after spending almost an hour in the bathhouse, it never touched down where we were, but it did around us. my brother and his partner were 10 miles down the lake and tied up in someones boat house. the owner came down and sit with them. said he was a great guy. we end up going out for about 2 hours that evening and caught a few more fish, but nothing spectacular.

Thursday- WOW-WHAT A DAY! we went to the flat with my brother and his partner. we fished til about noon and went in and ate lunch. came back out about 4 hours before dark and fished untli dark. my partner and i boated 111 bass with over 20 keepers. multiple 4lbers and 3 lbers. it was simply unblievable. my brother and his partner caught 116 and had over 30 keepers. they had a 6.5 and a 5.9. they also had two that went 4.14. there smallest of their top five was 4.2. we fished the same two hundred yard flat with red eye shad traps chrome/blue back. they moved in all day and were busting shad everywhere. at one point i caught 13 in 14 casts. and these fish were so mean!!! Matt Reed fishing out of the Yum boat found the flat about halfway through the mornig and fished with us. we watched him catch and cull as many fish as we were. what an area this place was.

Friday. my partner and i of course go to the flat.We share it again most of the day with the Yum pro Matt Reed. he finished 10th in the tourney by the way so evidently we were on a good spot. even though we wanted to explore the lake, how can u when u are catching that many fish from one spot. anyway, we went out and fished until around noon again. went back out about 4 hours before dark again. we caught 70 and had 18 keepers. my partner catches one 5.8 and has multiple 4lb. plus fish. i catch multiple three pounders, but still havent broke the 4 or 5 lb. limit. my brother and his partner had to leave around noon on friday because my brothers wife grandmother passed while we were there. anyway. they fished right across from our campsite and boated 14 and nine keepers in a 100 yard stretch. they went up and down it three times. they also had another huge bag of fish with all of them coming on popppers and buzzbaits. unbeleivable. multiple 4 and 5lb. bag was their best five again. i had looked at that bank all week, but never had fished it. they fished it because our campground neighbor caught one 7.2 off the bank the day before. anyway another tremendous day on Guntersville.

Saturday - we go to flat again. the fish were not as active and they had sucked the lake almost a foot from the day before so our the grass is much thicker and its getting harder to get the traps through it because its right to the top of the water now. anyway we catch some fish but not near as many. The Yum pro was there for only about 15 minutes and took off. it took him 15 minutes to figure out what took us about 2 hours. the spot was drying up. anyway, we hit a few main lake cuts and catch some nice fish on topwater. these were the most vicious explosions ihave ever seen. they would nip at my spook and chase it and finally just crush it. it was amazing. for the day we boated 33 and had 13 keepers. again, we had multiple 3-4 lbers. and the other fish we caught all week were fat healthy fish in the 12-14 inch range. this lake is flat out loaded with fish. we also marked some spots in the future where the pros were fishing. i usually go to barkley in the spring every year and love that lake. but, i will be back to guntersville in the future for sure. it was simply amazing!!!

sorry for the rambling, but man what a trip!

    Saturday.

Great report, I enjoyed reading it. I hope someday I get to fish this lake when it's on like that. We have good lakes in Kentucky but pale in comparison to some other places.

Congratulations on a great trip, we were there in March, and it was nothing like that, except the rain. From the reports on Bassmaster, they slayed them, pro's were reporting 100 fish a day, and they topped the 100 pound mark, incredible. I think I may pack up Friday night, and drive down just to fish one day. Looks like you just need to find grass on the main lake with a hard bottom and you can load the boat.

Thanks for the report, wormy. We're headed that way Wednesday night. The work day was going really slow until I read your report. Now Wednesday seems a month away! Thanks a lot!

We were there in late March and had a really good trip with numbers and size. Caught my personal best yet, at 7lbs. 7oz. Can't wait!

Must be one HELL of a lake for somebody to say they will pick it over Ky and Barkley in the spring. I did not think it got any better than the twins when it was on but maybe I am wrong. Nice report

Great report! I leave in 12 days. I've been wondering how it will fish vs. the beloved twins to the west. This is a scouting trip for my Dad and I. If we like it, I might fish the fall, winter and next spring at Guntersville to see the full cycle.

For me it is about another 1:30 of driving time. I will consider leaving my boat down there in the fall if I like the lake and lodging.

Thanks for the report everyone deserves a trip like it makes up for some of the tough fishing you go through. But you do not need God speaking to you about bad weather and scaring you to death.

After reading you report I got so excited that I made reservations for this coming weekend. I have never fished Guntersville and I would like to know what area of the lake were you fishing.
