    lex area bank spots?

having trouble finding bank access areas. Looking to take the kids out so it doesnt matter what type of fish, just want to catch something.

where are some bank access areas? I actually live in versailles so the frankfort, lawrencburg, harodsburg area is preferred over lexington. I was thinking of trying Jacobson lake and kleber wma.

I live in LEX and fish the park after work once every few weeks year round as long as she is not frozen. This time of year you can catch bluegill by the hundreds if you head to the right spots. The best two places I can tell you to go since you will have the little ones is 1. On the golf course side of the park to your right there is a cove off the lake. Walk down the hill and you will see a gravel bar that runs about 50-75 yards out into the lake. Fiah around it and if they are spawning you will get bit every cast. 2. Off of Richmond road you will see a fence area that has a large pipe running through it from the other lake. Cast just to the left of it no the left side around a foot or two deep and if they are not spawning you will catch them there every cast. Dont throw over the fence you will get hung up every time since there is a cover that holds the pipe maybe a foot under the water. You will be suprised at how many "good" gills you will catch. I also caught a shellcracker last year from there. Lots of fun with a light action rod.

    Re: lex area bank spots?

I've been fishing Jacobson Park a few times lately since it's the closest place I can quickly get to and wet a line for an hour or so and I have a question.

Every time I've been there I've seen decent sized fish jumping quite a bit. The fish I'm seeing are probably a couple of pounds in size.

Does anyone know what they are? I don't think they're bass and the only other fish that size that I know of in there are the catfish and I didn't think they jumped on their own that much (I could be wrong about that).

Prolly carp. FYI...... know some of the hybrids we purchase for our club swim over there because I caught one over there before.

How far from Lex are you willing to go? Head out Athens Boonesboro Rd, go through Athens down to the Ky river. Ft. Boonesboro is not far away and there are places you can get to before raching the Boonesboro beach.

I wasn't sure if carp would do that or not.

I did wonder if it might be hybrids or whites but was pretty sure they might not be in there.

If I was just wanting to let the kids catch some fish, I would go to the game farm in Frankfort. They have a lake that is just for kids fishing, it is stocked with trout and bass, and plenty of bluegill to go around. I used to take a group of special needs kids there every year, and we had a blast - caught plenty of fish too.

I agree. I take the kids to Boonesboro State Park on the Kentucky River. There's a playground and beach if they get bored. Now, I know there's a better park and playground at Jacobson, but I never seem to catch anything there except tiny bluegill. At least at Boonesboro you have a wider option of fish to catch.

I have fished below Lock #8 (KY River) on the bank and have caught catfish and bass using artificials. Heck, if you had live bait you could catch alot more!
