Quick trip to Barkley

Had to run down for some maintenance on the place and couldn't stay the week end but fished a bit. Got out Sat / Sun mornings and fished until late morning both days. Didn't get to cover a lot of water but the fish were pretty active. I got hooked on a surface bait bite and had a lot of fun throwing a Sammy. Didn't land a bunch but had some incredible strikes. Don't know what was in the water but the fish weren't much going after that Sammy! I had one 3 - 4 pounds hit it 3 times coming out of the water each time until I finally got a hook in her and shook her off at the boat. The bluegills are bedding and the catfish are on the banks too. The lake is back to summer pool but surprisingly to me the drift was still bad. We probably need some wind for a few days to corral it to the banks.

im at barkley now and will be going home after the morning bite tomorrow. havent been fishing real hard myself as i am with my wife. we had 19 saturday morning and i had 1 that was a solid 4lb. on a tube. my wife, bless her, she lost a good 4lbr near the boat on a spinner bait. it would have been her biggest one. the fish rolled up and came unbuttoned. anyway we had 3 keepers. we spent the afternoon and evening at buzzard rock today we fished the morning and evening. we caught 27 total and 3 keepers again. wife caught a nice 18in. solid 3lb. smallmouth off a point.i caught one over 3 on a buzzbait. the fishing hasnt been exceptional, but has not been too bad. we have just been fishing the bays mostly and a couple of points i have had success in the past with.

Me and some buddies went down there last friday and caught 30 bass caught 7 or 8 keepers had two 3 punders get off right in front of the boat
