fished last night but only greenfish, about 16 to be exact, fished from 7 to 12 with only one keeper, smallmouth never did come up but we had no shad either which usually makes a differance in the spots we fish.

Anyone having any luck on the smallies at night on cumberland. Wanting to give it a try on Sat. I have been fishing green and catching fish but they are still scattered.

Yes, we caught several smallies & largemouth& kentucks both last Friday & this Wednesday nights. Black blue jigs, Junebug baby brush higs & tubes as well. Just remember to use plenty of Chartreuse die
Fished for Smallies Tue night before the monsoon arrived. thought David Hayes was going to be moved to 2nd place when I got a "Tiny" hit on my 1/4 oz Avacado and Orange Punisher jig. I had no clue what I had originally but after a few minutes of eliminating the possibilities (a submarine was a possibility), and a 15 minute fight or maybe more my uncle laid the net under a 23-8 Striper. Not bad on a 6' Med Action spinning rod with 10lb Flourocarbon. My Dad and Uncle's first night fishing on Cumberland. Nothing after that but we changed to the redfins, slivers and thundersticks for stripers and walleyes. Maybe I should have just kept throwing the jig. One funny thing to see was at 2:10am and the lightning strikes just southwest of the lake and it looked like a night tourney had let out as boats came from everywhere from the dam to Indian Creek heading to the ramp. 12 of my closest buddies trying to take out at the same time. Dropped my Dad and Uncle off at the campground below the dam and literally was running to the Explorer as the torrential downpour started. I feel sorry for anyone that decided to stay on the water thru this one. I would like to know just how much rain they got from 2:20am to 3am. It was blowing sideways, the stoplights in Jamestown were at a 45 degree angle. Fun drive back to Georgetown but luckily I got ahead of it as I got to Liberty.
Thanks for the replys. I will let you know how we do. Elnutsmalljaws you always have these good analagies on your posts.
Had a pretty good night on cumberland. Fished from 7pm until 5am. Had a pretty good evening bite. My partner landed 2 solid 2lb smallmouth. The first hour after dark was pretty slow but got better later in the night. Early the fish were hitting a 1/2 oz football in blk/bl/purp. My buddy was having luck on a brush hog. The best bait was a short arm with a #5 Gold colorado. The biggest fish of the night was a 4lb smallmouth followed by a couple of 3lbers. I was impressed how good of a smallmouth lake this is. We only had 1 spot and 1 largemouth but I think it had to deal with the area we were fishing. All the fish were caught on the sides of main lake points down from the mouth of Indian creek. They were not too deep. They seemed to be in less than 20ft of water. We got by with 1/2 and 5/8 spinnerbaits. Never heard much baitfish activity going on anywhere we fished. We will definitly be back in a week or so to give it another shot.
