Boga, Berkley, Bass Pro gripper for stripers ?

Asking those that striper fish if any of you use a gripper on stripers? Upper Bogas I know can handle them, but my goodness... So I am more interested to see if others use the Berkley or Bass Pro models and what the results were. I'm not worried about the built in scales.

I fish in the river quite a bit hybrid fishing, my berkleys I have are terrible, a friend of my has the rapalas and it will hold the fish but the shape of the jaws are poor its hard to get them to the lower jaw, but once they lock on there on but my berkleys slip off all the time once the fish starts thrashing. There is a guy Derik I fished around quite a bit, he uses the bass pro kind with the scale and I have not seen him drop a fish yet, seems once he locks them on they are on, hope this helps but I would not buy the berkleys IMO.

Thanks, EZGO That's the stuff I am looking for. I've read a few reports that the Berkley's don't hold but its on vendor sites and you never know when someone is gonna post bogus stuff because they like another brand name better...

It was a tough nut to swallow Duayne but I bought the 60lb bogas and I'm glad I did. It'll last a life time (as long as I don't drop it in the lake). Very easy to use and I've had fish up to 55 lbs on em with no slippage.

Thanks S. I am worried that none of the 30 # versions can hold up to a 20# striper splashing around. I am always amazed at how strong they are every time I lip one that has already been landed..

I'm gonna start working on more artificial techniques this weekend and nets are not very friendly to them..

I've used the 30# boga for a few years. It will hold a 20# striper.

Thanks, Andrew... I may get that one. Just looked at the Bass Pro and Berkley models and they sure do not look like they will hold an angry striper.. LOL

BTW, jigs coming along well. Had to punt a few times on the paint but I'm getting there. Time to earn my stripes with tieing next. Mass production is a LONG way off! LOL

Yeah, I'd guess the 30 lb boga will hold fish bigger than 30 lbs just not be able to weigh them. They are made well.

So we got a new jig manufacturer huh? I'll be down the weekend of the 4th if you come down then bring me one or two.. :-)

D, it's looking like I'm going to be your new neighbor - I'm going to pull the trigger on Tomi's trailer. I'm pumped!

Awesome! Congrats! You do know about that "other" neighbor of yours, don't ya??

Not sure if you want any out of this first batch. I'm a learn'n right now. I won't be down on the 4th unless things change but if I get some tied this week, I'll try to leave a sample or two for ya. I'm only making 1/2 oz ones for stripers and 1/4 undressed ones for bass right now. I am doing a few cool things like adding a glow coat to the chart. ones for night and deep trolling..

Sounds like the jigs are coming along. Keep the powder paint fluffed up by swirling a wire or something else through it after you do 3-4 jigs. You can also put the powder in a larger container so that it has more room to move about. With the jig head at the right temp, it should just be a quick swirl through the powder to coat it well. Took me a little getting used to before I got it down. Sooo, does this mean that I won't have to make any more jigs for me either

Well, tying 101 didn't go so well last night. I think I would have been fine if it wasn't for trying to get around the the spinner eye combined with "I'm too proud or stupid to wear specs". Thought about unscrewing them, tying, then screwing them back in.

I wouldn't jig up your "jig job" just yet..
