Fern lake is the one Andy G posts his big hawgs he catches all the time. It obviously is a well kept secret with the type of bass he has shown pics of in the past.

One thing I love doing is finding hot fishing spots off the beaten path. For lakes this usually means small lakes that are not on most maps and you dont hear much about. The vast majority are city reservoirs that I found and offer the best fishing or at least most consistent fishing in the state. I have a couple prospect lined up I am planning on trying soon but I there are several I found when I lived in Corbin.
These lakes are easy to identify if there is no launch ramp thats a good sign. If you have to pay to fish or only a few people have access thats another good sign.
Fern Lake-Middlesboro-It costs $200 to join and 150 every year after. I joined it one year but was planning on moving and didnt rejoin. It gets lots of pressure but not the pressure it would if it was a public lake. It produces legit 10lb bass and may have produced a state record in the past. No joke. Its very clear and if your expecting great numbers think again. You catch good numbers on cloudy rainy days and at certain times but not that much better than what you would catch at a good public lake. Most will be in the 11-15in range. If you join do it for the Trophy fish. Its closed in May so your paying for 11 months really. Just look on a map and drive there and talk to the owner hes usually there he runs a frame shop.
Corbin City Reservior-Corbin-This lake is actually a lake at the headwater of Laurel Lake. Its nothing like Laurel Lake its murky yearound and shallow. The access was stopped several years back and only city employees and their friends and family have access. But its a big lake 120 acres. You can carry a boat down at the gate by the KOA campground. You can fish off the bank but I wouldnt recommend it. Its a great numbers lake you catch plenty of solid bass. My best day I fished a morning out of a float tube and caught 30 with 8 over 15in. Its very consistent its either really good or good.
I tried other lakes that didnt pan out. The Whitley City reservior was full of bass but the vast vast majority were very small. Either because of overharvest or overpopulation I think it is overpopulation because it doesnt get alot of pressure. Theres another lake between London and Corbin with no official name its just a dammed creek and its better than most public lakes easy but not that special.
If anybody else knows any lakes feel free to share. Trust me there wont be 100 boats there next time because you post it here. Few if any will act on the initial urge to try it.

Yeah Fern lake is at the corner of the state. Half of it is in Virginia.
Years ago we would catch some HAWGS out of Jacobson Park but that was before they sectioned off the big cove on the left. It was great for some afternoon and evening trips.
The lake between Corbin and London is called Dorothy-or thats what Ive always known it by. I have fished it a few times. Never caught many bass, but it has some nice bluegill and crappie. Had a friend who's dad did real well for catfish there. It has easy access in a couple different spots for a jon boat.

The river between London and Corbin is little Laurel. It connects to the upper end of laurel lake at KOA. I fished both for many years. I have went many of days a caught keeper after keeper. Biggest I seen caught was 7 lbs. I got a boat and stopped lugging all my gear down there. It is a very good bass fisherie. If you don't mind a hike. Plus you need to watch your vehicles, you get things jacked.
