Whew, took my pack of mutts for our evening stroll around the farm last night before dark.My herd/bird dog hit on something down the hollow from me and they had it bayed pretty quick,I figured they had treed a squirrel maybe, but by the time I got there the skunk was dead and 3 dogs smelled wonderful. The herd dog sleeps in the house as he's part of the family, but luckily I learned the stink removal recipe from myth busters a couple years ago.It goes like this= Big bottle of hydrogen peroxide mixed with sevaral heaping spoonfuls of baking soda and dawn dishwashing soap.
Seems like I have an excess of skunks around here as this is the 3rd time my dogs have got sprayed, they hate getting sprayed but will still kill the skunks for it,if anybody wants a few skunks I'd be glad to let you have them.
I hear you. I live in a wooded neighborhood, and we are thick with skunks. I see a couple every night. We have a fenced in yard, but it doesn't help. Our dogs have only got it once this year, but several last fall. One even sprayed right by my AC and it sucked in through the house. It took two weeks with the windows open and the air running to air it out. My neighbor and I have killed a total fo 5 so far, but it hasn't made a dent in it. I have found throwing fireworks at them scares them off pretty good, and is fairly entertaining as well. The Hydrogen peroxid/baking soda works better than anything we have used, even commercial deoderizers made for skunk spray. However, they still stink for a few weeks.
