New Albany ramp to Mc Alpine

If I put in at the New Albany ramp is it easy to work back to the lower McAlpine dam? Is there a channel you have to follow? If I have never done this would it be safe to do without following someone that knows? I know to get to the upper dam can be very tricky if you don't know the channel.. Thanks!

I would sugest following someonr the first time or two. dut, if you go just take it slow , watch your depth finder and be careful. i followed a freind of mine for almost a year before i went solo. the best tip i could give is to just becarefull and your depth finder is your best freind over there.

Also ,you have to use the shute next to the loch wall. Watch for the loch discharge, if lights are blinking on the sign stay away and watch where the water comes out for future reference. once you reach the top of the chute stay to the right of the ripples you will see what I'm talking about. This will bring you up behind the hydros and the lower dam. And I'm with Bassking it would be best to follow someone the first few times. And your right getting to the upper dam is a whole nother thread LOL.. good luck, Chuck. ps. I'm down there every Fri. and would be glad to show you.

Would not recommend putting in at New Albany with the river so low. Yanked the rear axle off my trailer Friday morning trying to put my boat in. Ramp is in deplorable condition and the city should be embarassed with this facility, especially seeing how they have poured so much money into the the rest of this area that to few people will ever use. If you decide to use this ramp, be aware that the ramp is crumbling at the end with deep wash out holes.
