Help on Cumberland River at Kendall

Thinking about taking the better half and going below the dam at Cumberland Friday for trout, walleye, and stripers. This will be the first time with a boat. I have banked fished a couple of times. Looking at Wed. day actual and Thur. predicted generating schedule, it seems that they are not running any generators. Will this cause any problems launching at Kendall and how far could you float? I have an 18 foot Bass Tracker. Any help, reports or information would be appreciated.

With no generation, be careful! launching at Kendall can be tricky with low generation, as evidenced by the paint marks on the rocks there. Stay in the main river channel and you should be fine. I have heard recent stories of big stripers swiping at trout while on the line. With the recent long high generation, stripers should be good. Good luck and let us know how you guys do.

    GeoFisher-
Are you in a canoe? I wouldn't see why not, if they are not generating. That is one heck of a paddle coming back up from Helms to Kendall though. You go!

    Chubminnow-
Although putting in at Burkesville would be easier than Kendall, I think the fishing is much better from Kendall down, than Burkesville up. That is, for trout at least. The water temps have crept up down there, and I feel that a lot of the trout have moved up stream.

Does anyone have a recent water temp down in Burkesville? Curious.

The feller said he'd be fishing for Trout, Walleye and Stripes...I agree with you, THIS time of year he'd be better off fishing for trout near the dam...but as far as boating on the river is concerned, especially this time of year, I think he'd be better off putting in at Burkesville, unless he's dag gone sure of what the generation schedule is doing...and we all know that what they say they're generating and what they're truly generating can sometimes be two different things.

Yep..........red penobscot........I've been down there a few times with it........NEVER floated all the way to helms..........close though.

AND the paddle back up the river really is PAINFUL.

LMAO! I would imagine so! I have a 18ft Kevlar canoe, and thought about floating that section. Just never could figure out a way to get picked up down at Helms (I'm to lazy to paddle back up river!). Take it easy.

I just wish they would put some of those big ones (in that front run) in at come local planting spots! There are some monsters in there! I always take time to swing in there on my trips to the CR @ Kendall, and drool over 'em! Nice pic.
