Going out of business.... No wonder

A friend of mine went over to a certain big box retailer last night in lexington that is going out of business and wanted me to pass this on. He said he arrived about 25 minutes until closing time, knew exactly what he wanted and they wouldn't let him in the store saying they had too many customers. He said he really wasn't spending that much money, but his $100 bucks ended up going to a locally owned smaller shop instead. I am happy that the local guy ended up with the business. Just no wonder these places are going out. I would rather spend a couple bucks more and support the local people, im pretty sure he will too from now on.

Stopped there Thurs on way to Cave to camp and fish a few days. Needed a new tent. They had 2 6-man tents left and 2 4-man tents. Regular price on 6 man was 299.99 on sale 25% off for 224.99. For a tent, now! Took it to the desk and said "I'm going to buy a tent today somewhere. Make it 50% off at 150.00 and I'll take it." The lady said she couldn't do thatthey are whatever they're marked. Asked if anybody could authorize it and she said "no". So I put it back and went next door which ABSOLUTELY kills me to go in there(Walmart). Bought a 6 man tent for 78.00. Now, how in the He## can you be going out of business and not accept 150.00 for a tent? I said from the first time I went in there they would never make it.

I can understand if the tent at the place with 25% off was a Kelty or Eureka or another good brand versus a Wally World Special.

ALL tents are NOT created equal..........and I'd pay for a QUALITY tent over a junker any day.

Geo, no they weren't the same model. The one there was a Kelty(I believe) and the one from Wally World is a Ozark Trail. That's why I would have paid 150.00 for the Kelty, but not 224.99. I don't use one but about twice a year, not going into debt for something to sleep in 4-5 nights a year.

Kent, That does not make sense. They are going out of business. Discount it as much as needed to sell it. They where not going to take a loss with a little additional discount.

This is my story about customer satisfaction.

Went to ****'s (Hamburg). They had a tent sale. they had 1 - XXL Dream Season Scent Lock Jacket $140.00 25% off = $105.00. I ask if they could take off another 20% they said no problem. I took the jacket to the register to check out. I ask the cashier about the additional 20%. She rang it up and gave me 30% off. I got the jacket for less than $75. I am not a huge fan of ****'s Sporting goods but they made a customer happy that day. Sportman's Warehouse has had that problem from day 1. Customer Satisfaction!

Completely GOT it now...........and I'd also not pay the 224.........THEY should have dumped the tent for what you were willing to pay....it is unfortunate that they were BONE HEADED.

They probably lost money on that deal......but will make it back on something else you purchase from them in the future. It is kinda a gamble, and some are willing to do it..........others NOT so much........Galyans would wheel and deal also....

"Knew exactly what he wanted" I went there last Friday and they probably did him a favor. They are out of alot of stuff and everything is moved around and mixed up. Chances are he would have had a difficult time finding what he wanted. They probably did him a favor. That being said they are under staffed and lines are long at the registers. My guess is they didnt want to be there 1hr after closing like the probably were the previous couple days and I dont blame them. FYI they had a few useful things left Friday but were out of alot of stuff as well. Hit them up if you want to just look around but it probably not the best place if you have a needs list.

As far as the tent you cant go into a big retailer and ask for an other 20% off even if they sell sporting goods. Try that at Walmart, Basspro shops, Target, ect. Most people working there couldnt do that if they wanted. It may happen but its rare.

You all understand this is a corporate owned store, not a local owned store? And corporation is in bankruptcy. The liquidation is under supervision of a bankruptcy judge. That's how bankruptcy works. The money they get now goes directly to the creditors under the bankruptcy plan set forth by the court. Therefore they can't just sell stuff at whatever price they want. Their hands are tied.
