I have all but given up on this lake when it comes to bass fishing. I only live 35 minutes from the lake and I never fish it because of the boat traffic and the fact that I have caught very few decent fish from that lake. I would like to change that.
I usually have Thursdays off from work, and if I fish I usually head to Nolin. I am breaking that habit this week and I am going to go to Rough Thursday and put in at the state ramp.
Can some of you please give me some suggestions on where to fish and what to throw to catch some bass Thursday?

Rough is at its prime in early spring and fall in my opinion. I usually don't go to Rough in the summer because the boat traffic is rediculous. I don't know why the pleasure boaters and pontoons all decide to go to Rough on weekends.I have all but given up on this lake when it comes to bass fishing. Because Taylorsville Lake is a parking lot on the water, so the next best lake is Rough Rive Lake.
Well I am going on a Thursday, so hopefully it won't be too bad.
Because those are their days off work??? LOL LOL
I appologize Skeeter, I just could not help myself. I am 45 mins away from Rough (state ramp), Nolin (Moutidier), and 65 mins from Barkley and 75-105 mins (depending on which ramp) from KY. Yet I find I am at KY the most, then Barkley, and the reason is just what you are pointing out. At least at KY and Barkley one can get away from the really bow to bow traffic, well mostly anyway.

Rough is a tough lake to fish. When we first started there it would take us a week to catch a fish now we can catch 15 or 20 most anytime we go and usually have a limit. Though we don't keep them other than tourney's.
If you are going to fish rough this time of year you have to go at night. This is our favorite time of the year on Rough. We catch more now tham in the spring or fall.
The crankbaits that work well on Ky Barkley and Nolin leave them at home for some reason the fish on rough just won't respond to them. I mean you will catch a few but not large numbers of fish. Soft platic and jigs they seem to be the bait of choice at Rough.
And if you just want to catch fish when you pull out of the state dock make an immediate right and fish that bank. I guarantee you will catch some short fish there and at least keep your interest up.
I am not telling you anything that all the other regulars on Rough don't already know. Good luck it is a hard lake other than Taylorsville it is the toughest I have ever been on but the fish are there.
