OK, here's the story..... For the last 2-3 months I have had a pain in my right "elbow". OK, I'm 64 years old, should expect some pain! BUT..could this be related to fishing..i.e. casting. Shortly before this occured, I fished 24/7 during the walleye run at Wolf Creek. A lot of casting fishing jerk baits. Could this be it? Left elbow is fine.![]()
yes!! i have a freind who now only drift's for cats on the ohio cause he has a hard time casting and he's 15 years younger. his doc compares his to what they call "tennis elbow".OK, here's the story..... I have played a lot of tennis in my life and even had tennis elbow at one point. One of the ways I relieved it was changing the size of the grip on my racket. Maybe you could wrap the grips on your poles and try that?
Another idea is to make sure you relax your grip occasionally and stretch ou your hand.
The biggest thing that worked for me though was to use a lighter gauge string to take some of the shock off. Not sure how to equate that to fishing.
Hope it clears up by fnf season!![]()
I get bruises on my back kind of like stretch marks throwing crankbaits during post spawn. My wrist will also hurt something terrible throwing topwater all day and I am only 26 years old. The first time I came home with bruises on my back my other half thought I had scratch marks on my back. That was a fun one to explain to her!!
Go to your doctor and get a cortizone shot in your elbow. That will really help. I am getting my third rotor cuff surgery this week due to fishing. Warm up your arms before
you start casting. Good luck.
My wife and I were fishing 3-4 times a week a few years back when she started haveing trouble. She went to the doc and he said she had tennis elbow. She has never played tennis.OK, here's the story..... For the last 2-3 months I have had a pain in my right "elbow". OK, I'm 64 years old, should expect some pain! Yeah it doesnt surprise me, im only 19 and the way i work a jerkbait kills my wrist sometimes..
I have tennis elbo and a bad rotor cuff and had a the shot and take a pill now.I had too learn how too cast different too keep the pain down.I think i can cast just as far now as i did before.Been cut on too many times for other things and want too put that off.I think most of all we are all just getting old and wore out.I'm just happy i can still get in an out of the boat without help and will keep going till then.Terry Adolph![]()
I know what you are talking about and it is considered tennis elbow. My doctor had me purchase a strap that goes on the arm just below the elbow and let me tell you it helps big time. To make sure I wear it I keep it in the boat so I will not forget and leave it at home. Also should the elbow bother you when not fishing, ice packs will help. DO not try and save money and buy a cheap one because you will hurt more than you will help. It only costs a little more to go first class.OK, here's the story..... Absolutely Mr Boone. If I put in a hard weekend of casting, especially cranks, jerkbaits, Spooks, I get it bad.
That would be tough to explain!I get bruises on my back kind of like stretch marks throwing crankbaits during post spawn. I get the ache in my elbow and shoulder if I hit it hard in the Spring. Missed hookups with soft plastics and jigs would bother me until I revamped my hookset and equipment. I went to longer rods and a more productive hookset.
