Barren River Lake, not beach bend.

I know the rules about slamming and threats and I hope that this is not going to fall in that pit. The wife and I took the grandaughters out saturday to swim and fish or play at fishing, I sure you know what I mean. well luckly I dropped my wife and the girls at the beach at the Narrows. and my daughter and I were going to trailer the boat for the night We got past the no wake sign and we were heading toward the back side of the of the wall by the ramp. Well we watch pretty close eye for jet skies. and one past on one side and another on the other side both had to be doing 40 to 50, Ok no problem then just as we started to turn into no wake zone for the ramp here comes the PWC back at us at full speed same game this time they got closer, a moment later a baha and one of the speeding boom box skie boats come at us they crossed each others wake twice before passing with in a few feet from our pontoon, they were having a ball what happened next could have been tragic when the 2 wakes from these two big boats hit we hit a 3 foot wake and when the front dropped back down a wall of water nearly washed every thing off of my boat. had my 4 year old grandaughter been on board I have no doubt she would have been washed out too. Not to mention the fear this could have caused her, I was unable to get the numbers on the boats just trying to maintian control of the boat. now Barren River has right at 10,000 acres of water and the area we stay in is pretty much used by families, and operators help each other out if needed, So If a parent or maybe even one of the kids driving the boats reads this board please remember just because a boat can do 60 it may not be the right place to do so. This makes it tough on everyone from fishermen to family outings, a safe and responsible operator watches every where and if you have a need for speed use the main part of the lake

i totally agree. i have not had as big of a problem with jet skis as i have the wake board boats. i cant understand the mentality of what is so fun about making waves close to fishing boats when there is plenty of room on the lake. i guess its suppose to be funny to the teenagers that see other boats move up and down on the wake. however, the solution would be to limit these types of boats to certain water areas. this would be safer for everyone. i have seen people wakeboarding and tubing over pedigo island. for those that dont know, this is an underwater island that one second your in 22ft of water and the next you can actually step out of your boat in 2ft of water. not to mention all the cynder blocks and brush on it. if a skier falls at this spot might as well call search and rescue. barren also needs more water patrol. one or two boats is just not even close to enough for sat, and sunday traffic on this lake.

We only have about another month of this chaos and then we'll have the lake to ourselves again. I've gotten to the point where it's just not worth going to the lake anymore in the summertime. When I come out of a creek or cove and I have to merge into traffice just to move to the next spot it's time for me to stay at the house and play golf or something. It's a shame because I would like to become more of a proficient summertime angler but I don't have the tempermant to put up with all the idiots. Heck it's not even safe to night fish anymore. Last friday night I seen a pontoon full of drunks almost run into a fisherman fishing a point. I think the guy made them pull over and take it in for the night.

Care to share where this pedigo island is? I have fished Barren for a long time and have not heard of it. I might know where it is but just never knew it was named.

When my youngest was only around 2 years old,we had him on a pontoon fishing in the back end of a smaller creek off of Indian creek on Lake Cumberland,some butthead in his Howard Hughs yacht came flying back in there and turned full speeed just feet from hitting us,the wake slammed my little one into the railing and if my wife hadn't been close he would hhave went overboard.
I was so mad,had I had a rifle I would have shot the SOB driving,I realize the lakes are for all to enjoy,but there is a need for tougher law on this kind of behavior and tougher enforcement.Just not enough CO's to go around.
