I have mainly only fished the Frankfort side of Elkhorn but it has catfish. You probably won't bring in any big fish ie. 5 pounds or so. I have caught several in the 2 to 3 pound range though.

Hey all, I'm new to this board. Was wondering if anybody here has caught cats in Elkhorn and if so, what part? My access downstream of the forks is limited, and I'd prefer to fish closer to Georgetown.
Also, are there any other creeks in central KY that you have had good luck catfishing? I'm kinda burnt out on fishing the same few lakes all the time and want to find a bit more solitude.
Appreciate any help!

I've fished for them a little bit near Frankfort and have always caught at least a few.
Welcome farmboy....I just fished it for the first time in 10 years and I heard of a few being caught there but never tried for any. Just fished for bass.
Thanks for the replies guys. One more question -- I found a dam that I didn't know existed and it looks like a real fishy spot. When fishing below dams, should I fish the foam or the slack water?
Cats are in Elkhorn for sure. I've caught them while bass fishing before, up to 3 pounds or so. All have been caught on the main stem around the Canoe KY outfit... Try it all when fishing below a dam. A good rule of thumb is make short casts first and then make longer casts. You won't spook the area as much this way. Be sure to fish the slack water on the edges of the current as well.

I have only tried a few times and mostly when taking a break from paddling. I have always caught them. They must be thick if I have luck.
I've never done real well on cats in the Georgetown area. There are some flatheads and mud cats but few channels. Try the area from Canoe KY down to the river. 10 years or so ago when the hatchery flooded they lost thousands of channel cat fingerlings. I remember fishing down there and you couldn't cast out and get a bait back without hooking a 6" channel.
