    Break of the Line

Elnut should relate to this one.

    Break of the Line

    It matters not
    The season or reason
    That draws us
    To water's edge
    It matters not
    That so many
    Has touched the hand
    The bent rods
    The pull off drag
    That "trophy"
    In the smiling picture
    Bragging rights
    At dinner
    But what cuts
    To the heart
    Is that "one bite"
    Unexpected
    Long awaited
    Only to be released
With the break of the line
    A sound not more defined

    Re: Break of the Line

Elnut can relate to this but the only 2 fish that I EVER lost that I EVER regret neither broke the line but I did at least get to see both of them. The first was a sure 8lb Smallmouth that I had almost to the net 3 times in Feb 2005 that my buddy Henson and I will both never forget before my jig straightened out, the second was the 10lb Greenfish that spit my rattle trap right back at me after she came to the top and shook her gigantic head. At least I got to see both of these before the fishing gods smacked me on the head is the only graces I got from both of them along with the memory of fish that were both once in a lifetime for me.

    Re: Break of the Line

It has happened numerous times to me, but the last most disappointing was in August of this year while salt water fishing. I was wading the backwater mangroves with light tackle fishing for speckled trout and small mackeral. I had a flurocarbon leader, fishing with 8 lb test, and tied into a huge redfish. Got it up close to where I was in waist deep water but the last run it just snapped off. Man, what a rush!! I caught two redfish later on the boat with larger tackle that were 33", but not nearly the rush as fighting it on that light gear.
