Watersheds off of I-64 between 231 and 164

Does anyone know if the watersheds off of I-64EAST are private or public.

Lots of these are RIGHT next to the highway, and are dammed up. Some are 100 acres or so......

I've tried to figure out who owns them.....but have not been too lucky.

Here are some GPS locations........for those who want to look:

    38.191266,-87.332815

    38.189748, -87.325884

    38.189748, -87.325884

You can simply put these into maps.google.com

    These are in Lynnville................

    Thanks,

    Geo

Pick up a plot map of the area. That will tell you. I just looked at some older ones and they show it as coal mine property which I know isn't true anymore. On another note there are some really good pits in that area. Head towards boonville. Go a few miles and you will go over rail road tracks that have been removed. Turn left and all of those pits are excellent. The huge old tecumseh(sp) pit is further back south towards 64. That used to be the best pit around for pan fish. We would catch gills in there hundred a day easy. I haven't fished any of those for 15+ years. Lynnville lake is also close to there.

Just called my dad since he still lives up there and is all over back in there. He thinks a lot of it is still owned by Peabody. And a group of guys out of boonville lease a lot of the ground. He didn't know for sure were their lease ended or if they even lease the lakes. Hope this helps.

Those are indeed Peabody pits. You really have to know someone high up to get in them. I have never seen a boat in any of them and I pass there quite often.........

Tecumseh is still there. Peabody done a pretty good job at closing the area off, but you can still drive to it. We fished it several times this spring, but I won't go back until we duck hunt it this fall.

The pits that you see off of I-64 west of Lynnville are indeed all still Peabody. I've only fished a couple of them, but I turkey hunt in there and there are always bass working the shallows in the spring. The pit farthest west, the first one that you see, has some islands out in it. It has some monster redear in it. Peabody gated the main road to the tipple off from all directions, so getting to them is pretty difficult.

There are lots of pits in Peabody that hold good fish, you just have to drive a bit and try some of them out.

As far as someone from Boonville have some ground leased in that area, I am not sure. The only ground that I know of that has been leased is all East of Tecumseh lake when you are on Interstate. I know some guys say they leased it from Peabody, but there land manager told me that is not the case.

    Fishnut you covered it perfectly.
Do you fish any tournaments? We'll be having one out of angel mounds this sat starting at 6:30 or safe light. Some of you guys need to get your feet wet. You'll enjoy it and we have a bunch of nice guys that fish with us.

I'm sitting up here at Tecumseh right now. It's all been reclaimed and signs everywhere saying no hunting and fishing. This worker I just talked to says they are planning on draining it to strip it all out again. But this guy may have no idea what he is talking a out.

Well the guy is nuts! But there is no way you are getting down the road straight across from crowville road. Let alone with a boat. I just buried my Xterra trying to make it all the way back to it. The mudders have it torn up really well. I had to put logs under all 4 tires to get out. Do you all know of another way in?

Is that a bass tournament out of Angle mounds this Saturday. I have never had any luck bass fishing below the Newburgh dams. However I hardley ever have any luck fishing period. I have caught a few keepers up by the french islands though. But I normally put in at yanketown boat ramp. I never locked through but have been wanting to experience that for a while now. Lived in Newburgh for 5 years now and just don't go to the river much.

what is the entry fee and payback % ?
    Thanks
