I never found in your posted site where they arrived at these prices. I do agree cap and trade is a bad thing as I understand it. My prediction, it will die in the Senate especially after they pass health care. They can win either one but not both.

Anytime a corporate special interest group/lobbyist puts out information supposedly looking out for the consumer, make sure you have your boots on. They are ONLY interested in profits to their shareholders and bonuses to upper management. PERIOD.

There is extensive online discussion about The American Clean Energy and Security Act, just google it. There are definitely some problems with cap and trade, and there are compelling reasons why we need to address our energy sources, production and requirements.

Personally, I'm looking forward to the day when I can pull a boat with an efficient and affordable hybrid truck. This bill, among many other things, does promote R and D in hybrid/electric technology and provides assistance and incentive for the automotive industry to re-tool.

Efficient and affordable hybrid truck.........you GOTTA be kidding, right.

There are some, but you can FORGET about any types of efficiencies WHILE towing. THE math simply doesn't add up.

Just like any non-hybrid car or truck, a hybrid SUV’s gas mileage will “tank” when pulling a trailer. Hybrid technology can’t defy physics, and when you have a power plant trying to pull 8,000 pounds instead of 5,000 pounds, that engine/motor is doing a whole lot more work and will thus eat up more gasoline. How much more will depend on driving conditions (uphill/downhill) and how much weight you’re towing.

You will definitely be able to "save" some smack while not towing, but you're kidding yourself if you think towing with a hybrid electric will ever be efficient, or affordable.

I will say that a quick google search did find quite a bit of information with regards to towing, and hybrids......so Maybe, just maybe I'm WRONG . I can only HOPE.

I didn't say that I thought the day I could tow with an efficient and affordable hybrid was just around the corner... it would be nice, though! We need, as a country, to more aggressively figure out how to make hybrid and other more efficient technologies work on a broader scale. Petroleum and coal are finite resources and are not sustainable. We need to look beyong our lifetimes (and short term profit statements) and find the solutions that our grandkids, etc. can enjoy. That might mean we have to pay more for gas and electricity now as our transportation, energy and manufacturing systems transition. I, for one, would pay more to make this transition to something that works long-term. Fighting for oil in the middle east ain't worth it.

Also, I'm a STRONG, STRONG believe in capitolism....People don't want hybrids, people DON'T want small cars.......

When demand.......NOT GOVERNMENT drives that, people will purchase them.

The cars for CLUNKERS is a GOOD example of that. While about 1 million efficient cars were sold during that time.........not VERY many have been since the program ran out.

The reason........people are NOT buying.........

I for one, purchased a GREAT Ford F-150 for a FANTASTIC price......about 20k less than sticker, and 10k less than bluebook........FANTASTIC, FANTASTIC deal.......and I purchased it because it was a GREAT deal.

AND with the deal, even if gas went to 5 bucks a gallon, I'd still NEVER pay as much for GAS and the purchase price as I'd spend buying one of these new fangled hybrids.

There is nothing wrong with Marathon making profits or looking out for their shareholders. We have a Marathon refinery here in our town. I can not tell you how much money they donate to this community (over and above their 20 million payroll) they are a great corporate neighbor. Cap and Trade is a terrible bill plus it is all about global warming and it is not in my mind a proven science, it is a weather pattern. When I was in college in 1966 I had a professor claim the ice age was coming that if we had a cooling of 3 degree days we could not raise corn in Illinois and at the rate we were going it would happen in fifty to 75 years. I think we have a lot less carbon emissions now than we did in 1966.
I talked to the refinery plant manager here and he said if this cap and trade bill passed there not only would be high prices there would be gas rationing. WE NEED TO DRILL OFF SHORE NOW. How ever cap and trade is all about global warming. If we pass it and the large polluters like China and Mexico will thumb their noses at us we will not be able to compete with them. I think Marathon would be irresponsible if they did not look out for themselves.
