Does anybody fly fish for stripers around here? What kind of gear do you use?

Lunatics? I thought we were the normal ones! I like to use a nine foot 7wt rod and throw large streamer patterns. Go to striper flies: 4" white deceiver, Big Mac Attack, and the Dan's Sili-Whitebait Bunker. Any of those three around surfacing stripers and BINGO! FISH ON! Lots of fun on the fly rod.

If I am not wrong, didn't Gerry McDaniel catch the fly line world record striper in the Cumberland River last year? Or at least for that particular weight line?

I always carry a fly rod in my boat this time of year when you are likely to run into fish in the jumps. I've caught several over the years on decievers and bunny strip flys. I use a 10 wt. but I'm over-gunned in most cases. It's just a rod I had for salmon and get some striper use out of it too. An 8 wt would be perfect I think.

Thanks guys i had a 8 wt but had to get rid of it. But things have changed so looking to get back into it. I always had troubles casting big flys. But want to stay light weight. Looking at bps gold cup rod and reel. I get a deal on them not lookin to spend a like of money but want something nice.

Hey Boat bum,,,if you want to try flyfishing for them,,,come see me. I want to try that too. My good friend Van Vance,,,you`ve heard the name on the radio use to do that behind the hydros a few yrs ago,,,and I want to do that too...bring what you have and lets try...lol

Well i don't have anything at the moment the reason for asking!!! But have caught some in behind th hydros and love it. I'm trying some record just for fun. I got my first boat. Its been killing me not having any fly fishing gear. I have gotten on them at the hydros, up on Monroe 2-3 times on some lite gear it was great. So now looking to fly them up.

Nawwwwww........where's the one that has holder for the Maker's Mark on the left side, and a "get out of jail free pass" on the right side?

Tried one like in the link once. Put a Bud on one side, and a CO2 propellant cannister on the other side. Got thirsty, hit the button, and blew beer out of both ears. Took a week till they stopped ringing. But it did work well as a mister to keep the mosquitoes away.
