    Best reel type for swimbait?

Ive done some reading, and have heard the abu garcia 5500 c3 a lot, and that it would be best to not go with a low-profile reel...anyone have any input?

Why not a low profile reel? I would go with the most dependable, comfortable reel around.

I think its just what suits you the best I throw mine in low profile reels and it seems to be fine.

It all depends on what weight/size swimbait your throwing if is a 3/4 ounce or less it really doesn't matter. If your throwing the heavier ones my choice would be a Calcutta but if you don't want to spend that much a 5500 c3 will sure fill the bill. The reason for the round reels they are built to handle the heavy lure weights day in and out a low profile would wear out quickly. MHO

I use a 5 to 1 gear ratio Shinmano Curado. Working a swimbait too fast is my biggest problem. My swimbaits tend to swim on their side when I wind them too fast so I go down on my gear ratio and make myself swim them slower. This real has plenty of spool capacity for 20lb test 100% Trileine flourocarbon.

Yeah I only use slower gear ratios when throwing cranks. I don't like the constant bent rod trying to pull cranks with a fast ratio. Everything else gets a fast ratio and I control the speed...to each his own.
