Even the Mayans are tired of the 12/21/2012 hype

December 12, 2012, will be an interesting day astronomically. The place in the sky where the sun rises on the autumnal equinox will line up with the "galactic plane," meaning the place in the sky that we see as the center of the Milky Way. That, IMHO, is the ONLY significance of this date. Contrary to popular belief, neither the Mayans nor Nostrodomus predict the end of the world on that date. I'd be interested in your opinions on this article, and on this subject in general:

Actually it's December 21,2012 and while neither exactly predicted the end of the world, both Nostradamus, the Mayans, and the Hopi Indians predict the world will change from the way we know it that day and the Hopi say only those who can adjust to the change will survive.
Nostradamus has left it open depending on how man changes the current path.I'd say the modern Mayans are nothing like the ancients who studied astronomy and astrology.
They are closer to modern Americans than the old people,I have met plenty of their decendants. I'm still up in the air,but alot of things Nostradamus predicted leading up to that time fit what Obama is doing today. Mabus the 3rd Anti-Christ.

Forgot to mention that the last time this happened 26000 years ago it coincided with the start of the last Ice Age.

The official web site for December 21, 2012 is:

    http://www.december212012.com/

Do a Google Search, if you haven't already, and you will get a bunch of good stuff. I hope I am still around to see the show.

I had the date right in the title, typo'ed in the text. Maybe I'm developing dyslexia in my old age The thing about Nostrodomus is, not only did he leave open exactly what would happen, he left open the date. Nowhere in any of his writings does he refer specifically to that date. The closest he comes is saying "Not far from the great millennial age." And where are you getting that 26,000 figure from? The last Ice Age started around 120,000 years ago, peaked about 18,000 years ago, and ended about 9,000-10,000 years ago.

Thanks for the link, Grumpy. Yeah, I've done searches on this subject, and I've seen that site, and I find it kind of amusing. First off, by who's authority is that the "official" web site of 12/21/2012? I think it's pretty obvious that they added that to their site simply to make them seem more credible. And they post every outlandish claim about what will supposedly happen on that date as FACT, with no rebuttal whatsoever. For instance:

"Is The Pole Shift Theory Possible?
One of the theories that has not been published in the dialog of Global Warming, is the Mayan Pole Shift Theory in which the north and south pole shift. Albert Einstein agreed that this effect is now going on, and can be responsible for Global Weather change.
The Pole Shift in 2012 - What the Mayas knew was coming?
As most of us know, the Mayas believed the end of the world would come in 2012. Thats when their calendars great cycle ends.
Polar Shift & Pole Reversal in 2012
In 2012 the next polar reversal will take place on earth. This means that the North Pole will be changed into the South Pole. Scientifically this can only be explained by the fact that the earth will start rotating in the opposite direction, together with a huge disaster of unknown proportions."

That stuff is of far out there, it cracks me up every time I read it.

RoadToad, the funny/sad thing is that people actually believe that stuff.
