I don't think it has anything to do with the ice storm.We have plenty of hickories,walnuts,and red oaks here,but the white oaks seem to only have produced on a few trees,less than 50% of what normally does.
The good thing was (I say was because the tore up the producing white oaks) is the deer could be pin pointed on the white oaks that did produce,most white oak acorns are gone here already.I'm pretty sure it's just a normal cyclical acorn production thing as I've seen this every so many years.
On a side note we had a banner of soft mast crops also,plenty of wild grapes,paw paws,persimmons,apples,etc.
The wildlife here is eating well,including my pumpkin crop.
