    Saturday Upward Football Results....

Had our 7th game this morning and it was by far the best one of the season yet. 34-27 with 13 seconds to go and we are down by 7, yes score is not kept in this 5-6 yr old league but coaches and parents do, and it is time for the double reverse to get us the last 20 yards needed to get us within 1. The snap and Cole hands off to Brandon on the reverse but here comes Lynden the other way and Brandon hands off to him and the field is wide open down the sideline, TOUCHDOWN RATTLERS (my team). My assistant coach asks me "now what" and I said "what do you mean now what, we did not play this entire game to lay up". The ref asks me 1 or 2, 1pt conversion from the 5yd line or 2pt conversion from the 10 and I don't hesitate and say 2. I tell my kids this is the last play of the game and we need to score, did not tell them it was to win or lose because we don't tell the kids that so I was doing this for the parents who are keeping score. All of my players had ran, passed or caught the ball at least 2 times apiece except my son Joshua the little flag pulling madman outside linebacker that he is. He would rather play defense and hates to run the ball but I know he can catch the ball. I call the roll out pass play, line up 4 receivers to the right tell my QB the play and tell him to throw it to Joshua if he is open, if not then to whoever is open. Snap and QB rolls out, my son runs into the endzone and turns around right on que, puts his hands up chest high and QB throws a strike to which Joshua catches it right in the breadbasket, I had a smile that stretched from Frankfort to Holly Creek Marina on Dale Hollow. 2 pt conversion, RATTLERS WIN RATTLERS WIN OH MY GOSH THE RATTLERS WIN. Not bad in 6yr old rolling out passing to just turned 6 yr old for another conversion. That makes 4 completed 2 pt pass play conversions and 5 touchdown pass plays so far in 7 games, pretty good for 5 and 6 year olds. I am proud as the kids did another excellent job.

4 different QB's have completed these plays to 5 different receivers by the way, NOT BAD AT ALL FOR 5 and 6 yr olds

Hey Elnut, I think there is going to be a coaching vacancy at a certain University nearby. Your play calling would be an upgradde from what we have now, so you might want to get your resume` ready.

Sorry Tim but I can only coach 5-7 yr olds until my son turns 8 then it will be 8-10 until he turns 10 and so forth. But I do have an OUTSTANDING outside Linebacker with more drive and determination to "get their flags" than any other kid I have seen his age if they need help on defense. Tell your current or soon to be new coach that we will start the recruiting process early if they choose. He fully understands that his JOB on defense is to "guard this side, stay at home until they go the other way then run that way (angle of pursuit) down the field and get their flags over there". Played football all thru my early years, watched a million games on tv, seen a bunch of kids his age and even a couple of years older than him and still have not seen any kid with more determination and drive to get their flags than him. His angle of pursuit is the best I have ever seen and it came so easy to him. The way college cost nowdays no telling how much it will cost in another 12 years so let the bidding war begin. We will open it up with a 4 year all inclusive scholarship to a major university and like the movie Blue Chips, we will take a house with a white picket fence and a nice corner office job with a view, a new tractor and a bag of cash worth $30,000 and even though he did not ask for it, a brand new Lexus.
