Water Conditions at Cumberland on Saturday (12/12)

I'm planning on heading down to Cumberland tomorrow for some FnF. I saw in another thread where Gary said the water was very brown.

Does anyone know the chance that it may be cleared up by Saturday morning.....or where I might be most likely to find the best water - lower on the lake, up high in the creeks, etc?

Michael the best water will be towards the Dam. The lake in many areas is experiencing turnover. Also couple that with the fact they have had several good rains down there lately as well and you will find some off colored water from about Jamestown eastward.

In fact up around Conley and Lee's Ford it's down right muddy.
If I was going to fish the fly I would head West Young man, Indian creek around the dam area should lend itself best for the best water for you to drown your fly.

Good luck Pal and I hope you guys whack a big brown one.

Actually, you told me just what I wanted to hear. I was hoping to fish the dam/Indian anyways.

Yes I do especially back in Indian creek and the adjoining creeks off of it.

East end looks horrible, Burnside area is very muddy.

Like I said in another post, Fishing Creek LFM area is VERY muddy. Further down the lake, from what I can see from the house, Greasy and Clifty Creeks appear to be in good shape. I would think Indian would be even better. Suggest you try Indian Creek. Also, send you a PM. See you nexts week at DH.

I appreciate the offer. I'll probably leave you alone to enjoy your birthday weekend and won't call you.

You know I'll definitely leave some there for us in the next few weeks. Actually, I likely won't have much choice in the matter!

I'm definitely going to hit that spot where you caught your first two and the spot where you held the boat into the wind and waves for 30 minutes so I could catch one!

We launched at the dam at about 8:30 and the water was fairly clear and 52 degrees as advertised.

I had a great time fishing with my Dad, but I got skunked for the 2nd time in a row. Not a single fish for me.

Dad did catch a big smallmouth from a spot that Boone suggested (thanks!), but it was an odd one.

I measured this fish 2 times and weighed it 3 times and something just didn't make sense.

It was every bit of 22" long, but it only weighed 3lbs 8 oz. It seems like for that to be the case it would have had to be sickly looking, but this was a nice healthy looking fish. It wasn't overly fat, but it wasn't starving either. Maybe my scale is broken or my ruler is wrong. When I first got it in the net, I was going to guess 19".

In any case, Dad had fun catching it. He's now caughht just 2 smallmouth on the fly and they've both been 20"+

Glad to hear that spot gave up a least one fish. By the way, what length leader were you using? We'll just have to BREAK that DRY SPELL at DH .

22 inches and skinny as a rail you'll still be around 4lb. Check your scales Michael on a gallon of water and see if they are off. I have caught smallmouth out of Cumberland before that were 22 inhes and barely weigh over 4lb's. Some of them are thin if you look straight down on them, from the sides they look decent but are thin.

Still though a 22 inch is a nice smallmouth bass none the less, some just weigh more than others.
