    Ohio River-Louisville - Cats/Stripers

Never been fishing on the Ohio and lakes around indy are gonna be freezing up soon. I've heard good things about the catfishing/striper fishing on the ohio.

Anyone willing to point me in the right direction of where's a good place to fish on the ohio in the louisville area? I assume they are in deep holes this time of year, but not sure what stretch of river is the best.

    Any tips/ideas would be helpful.

or if anyone is going during an upcoming weekend, and would like a partner to fish with and share some expenses...I'd love to start learning the river and I'd obviously give some gas money etc...

J; Best advice is to start exploring the Falls. White power grub tipped with a minnow on a quarter ounce jig will get you started. Watch for managable water levels, 17 on down for the lower gage. 1-502-775 5056 is the number for conditions. Best of luck. - Dr.B.

I agree with the Falls. Good variety of species available any time of year. During cold weather, also try some of the warm water discharges downstream from the I-64 bridge. Just look for the power plants.

There is a ramp in New Albany under the I-64 bridge. Go south on Main St (Hwy 111) until you reach the wastewater treatment plant at the edge of town. Turn left, go 1 block, turn left and the ramp will be about 1/4 mile. Be careful when water is low, ramp is washed out badly on the side in the current.

There is a ramp in Clarksville at the George Rogers Clarks homesite off of Harrison Ave(?). Very good ramp, but it will be closed if the water is high and running.

There is another ramp about 5 miles downstream on the Indiana side at Middle Creek. It is a COE ramp, but is closed from Nov thru April. The next IN ramp is in Mauckport (approx 30 miles).
