What would be the best all around line for a 6'6" medium heavy spinning outfit??? Techniques you'd try to gain confidence ???

I would say somewhere between 8 and 20 # depending on what you are going after. And what weight lure or bait you are throwing!

Please be specific. We also need to know the Relative air temp, The water depth and temp, And the weight of the swivel you are using. Along with the color of the Rod!!! And of course what type / Gear Ratio reel you will be a using!

8# line for that setup. Work a jig(hair if you have any), jerkbait, and silver buddy. If you have a FNF rod, do that too.

Thanks fellas. I will take all suggestions into consideration. I've never been a finesse fisherman. Just hasn't been my thing. I'm most comfortable when I have a heavy action rod with either a jig, tube or brushhog in hand & know I need to learn to finesse fish. What finesse style would you throw on bluffs & inside channel bends to try & gain confidence in it ???

No problem. I grew up fishing with spin tackle, that is all we used (out west). I have tried to convert to bait casters out here, but I have a hard time. I used left handed baitcasters cause I'm used to reeling with my left and setting with my right, however I rarely use them. Hard to get away from what I am used to.

Rich I also use left handed bait casting[have rights also], its natural to switch to from spinning gear.Now for the other, I use 15/4 braid, with a four ft or better seagar 15lb leader. You get good distance, and great hook ups because the stretch factor is nil;just tone down the hook set, and keep a moderatly loose drag.

Yeah, it helps using the left-handed baitcasters to keep my hands doing what they are used to doing (left crankin, right setting)....however, I just can't get totally comfortable with a reel on top of my reel seat, instead of below. With my spinning gear, I have my right hand grasped completely around the cork handle, with the bait caster, my right hand has some fingers around the cork handle and some on top of my baitcaster....feels different to me. Oh well, I still give a try every now and then.

Best all around is to use spider wire stealth 10 pound test BRAID, and then tie on a florocarbon leader about 18 inches long . Hardly any bird nests and almost no line twist. You can use a 4- 15 pound leader and cover a lot of technics. Also can cast it alot farther and ZERO line memory that we all have ran into with ALL FLOROCARBONS. Try it it will blow you away with the difference than mono or floro. Oh yes you may use the same line all year .

I went through a phase were I was just in love with braided lines...zero memory, great castability, etc. Then, I really started to realize how much my line was getting these casting knots in it? The knots were impossible to get untangled, so I would have to pull line out to the knot, cut, re-tie. This was getting expensive. I also started to wonder about the extreme visibility of braided line....looks like rope in the water. I like the idea of using the fluro leader, however I wonder if 18 inches would be enough for a fish not to notice the braid that close? If you use longer fluro leaders, than you have to deal with the knot connecting the lines having to go through your eyelits on ever cast shortening your casting distance and possibly causing damage to the knot over a series of cast that could result in a break with a nice fish. Just curious cause I enjoyed fishing with braid, and just loved the sensitivity and casting distance, but I changed back to fluro because of the other issues.
