    Texting

I need something explained to me, and maybe someone on here from a younger generation or with kids can help.

I was in a Dairy Queen this afternoon for lunch. Their was a young lady sitting by herself at the table next to me, she looked to be in her early twenties. I saw that she had a cellphone in her hand when I sat down and after a while be became obvious that she was texting to someone in real time. (her thumb would go like mad for a while, then stop and she looked at the phone, and apparently was reading a reply, then her thumb started again.)

What I don't understand is, if she was texting to someone in an ongoing conversation, why didn;t they just talk on the cellphone? I don't understand why kids would go to all of trouble to text when they could just talk. Help!!

It's easier sometimes to just send a statement and not get tied up on the phone. I do it all the time.
There are times you can be working on something and just get a quick question via text and send the reply back again without being tied up on the phone.
Then you could be like my daughter and be in the same house and text eachother???

Sorry, but TEXTING is the scourge of the universe.......Most kids are already SOCIAL MORONS.......this just makes them worse.

AND those that TEXT and drive should have their licenses revoked. TEXTING has been disabled on all my phones ( except for mine due to work). Not only that, but my kids are NOT allowed to use the phone while driving, and if I EVER catch them, they will lose their car.....PERIOD.

I will use my phone sometimes while driving, but most times, I'm using a headset, or I simply pull off the road....

    Later,

    Geo

I will never text and drive...it is dangerous, and also makes it too hard to hold your beer.

I don't think I would sit down and text a conversation, but I would have to completely agree. At times, I just don't feel like talking to someone, or am busy, and a text is the way to go.

I'm so guilty of doing that....it hurts to type this. I know it's wrong just like speeding or drafting but I'm as hardheaded as it gets. Sorry but alot of people do that and you can't stop it. It's up to each person to make that decision....even if it's wrong or against the law.

Maybe she did not want you to hear her conversation. I had to learn how to text in order to communicate with my kids! And sometimes it is very handy !

I text and email for the same reason.

I don't want all you southern guys or the southern chicks to hear my Pennsylvania Dutch Yankeee accent.

I never really texted as much as I do now but this iphone is so easy to interface with. We were playing games today at a customers office...he wanted to check it out and played with my phone for 20 minutes. Traffic? No problem iphone has many apps to get my mind off it. Stuck in an airport? Waiting for someone? Bored?
There are apps for that as well.

    Re: Texting

Rarely text. The one time that I put texting to use was when dad was in the hospital. My brother was there with him and could not make a phone call. He could text and let the rest of us know how things were going. That was one useful thing. Only time I've used it.
