    Marvin Harrison

I was a big fan of the guy as a wide reciever, but now it looks like the heat is turning up on him. Watched an interesting piece on the situation on ESPN...looks like it may turn out to be a VERY bad deal.

Harrison and another man, Dwight Dixon, got in an altercation, then Harrison (allegedly) pulled out two guns and shot at the guy as he drove away, hitting Dixon and swiss-cheesing his truck. Ballistics linked Harrison's gun to Dixon's wounds, but lack of witnesses prevented prosecution. After the incident, Dixon was interviewed saying that he was 100% sure it was Harrison and that he didn't feel safe around the neighborhood where the incident happened (where Harrison owns a car-wash) because of death threats he'd recieved through the grapevine. Less than three months later, as he sat in his car less than two blocks from Harrison's car-wash, Dixon was shot to death by a lone gunman.

Sounds like an ugly situation...is it just me or does there seem to be more and more professional athletes in the news for committing serious crimes??? I just wonder what some others think..(Orenthal James Simpson)..Either way, I am sure this story won't go away over the next few months. I just hope that another famous athlete doesn't slide through because of his accomplishments. Any Colts fans with a reaction?

Saw the same thing. I was thinking that the Pro Sport Commish's are gonna have to be meeting to get a handle on this. Plaxico shoots himself, Gilbert Arenas is suspended and now this. I remember other pro's talking about weapons both legally and illegally. College is no different thanks to the UT guys for making that point.

I know there were other problems.... I'm all for gun rights (proud NRA member) but like I said illegal gun possesion and shooting at someone with the gangsta intent is a different story. If they would make extreme examples of these spoiled grown ups things might get turned around.

I hate the fact that Marvin Harrison decided to waste his talent. A couple of things that pro athlete's, movie star's and famous musician's should never be in trouble for are drunk driving (get a driver or take a cab) or unlawful gun posession (hire licensed body guards)! No reason for either to happen!

Isn't it usually the highest profile players that get caught at this stuff? Why? Is it that they are so full of themselves that they feel they can do what they want? Are they really a victim of their own success with too many fans or crazed enemies after them?

Maybe it's just their lifestyle? Hip Hop Gansta packing his Gak ready to cap a sucka who dithrespeck me?

I am very surprised by this, I always thought Harrison was a squeaky clean type, maybe not.

It surprised me, too. It seemed out of character from what the average fan knew about his personality. But I when I stop to think about it, things like this shouldn't surprise any of us at all. Fans put certain athletes (and musicians, actors, famouse people in general...) on a podium because of the press they recieve and sometimes forget that performance and potential don't always equal character. Its really a shame, as much money as many of the famous professionals make (especially athletes, since that relates closer to Marvin), that they don't take being a role model more seriously and make smarter decisions. We have seen so many cases such as this play out in the sports world, it has to leave a bad taste in any true sports fan's mouth...but I guess we should also remember Marvin Harrison hasn't been convicted of anything regarding the other fella's death...as of yet.

Really? Let's say you walk into a bar, and there are two guys in there. One is smashing a baseball bat against the bar and saying, "I'm gonna kill everybody in here!" and the other guy is sitting in a corner reading a book. Which one are you going to worry about?

Just kidding. I stole that from George Carlin, and probably misquoted him, but I've always thought it was funny.

Had to bring this post back up. A GQ articlesheds a lot more light on this and it is not good for Harrison or anyone else invloved! It is 7 pages long but worth the read.
