    Cost of Fishing?

Just finished reading Bass Times and it hit me... When I first started Bass Fishing I felt like I had everything if I had a few spare hooks and a few extra plastic worms fishing from the bank. When we would toss floating Rapala's in the evenings as the Sun set it felt like we had the best life. Fishing was simple, inexpensive and satisfying...Of course things escalated rather quickly as I figured out ways to do without somethings to put more money toward tackle.

The big purchased was the used boat and even back then 9K was a steal for the Skeeter I purchased with a Yamaha Pro V 150 anyway I saw that the new Skeeter Model with the new 4 stroke is priced around 70K!!! Are they serious?

Sadly, they are serious. That new VMAX 4-stroke is supposed to be a great engine, but I would give them a year or two to work out the kinks in research and development, as well as quality control.

I think that the price on that particular series of boat is outrageous (FX series). However, Bassmaster mag stated that many dealers put in orders for them as soon as they test drove them.

However, I couldn't possibly justify spending that kind of money on a bass boat unless I fished professionally. I assume that professionals also receive "special pricing" as well. But too bad, Joe Shmoe and I still have to pay the full ticket to get one.

From the information given in the BASS article, it seems like a great boat, but in these hard times with the economy and people losing their jobs -- WHY WOULD YOU PUT SOMETHING LIKE THAT ON THE MARKET?

There is never enough fishing tackle.About 62 years ago or more, my mom bought me and my brother two cane poles, we got on a bus and went to the local lake. BVefore she died, she told my wife that was the biggest mistake she ever made!Whewn you need a 10x12shed just for fishing stuff, do you think I've gone too far? I had 100s of dollars of great lakes tackle, sold at yard sales here. At least 6 bait casting rods and reels, same thing. Probably a dozen spinning outfits, all on yard sales. 5 boats, a canoe, waders, hip boots,I know I have stuff I havn.t used in years. Waiting for my order to come in from cabelas. My ranger went toward the kids education, both college grads. Never got bass fever, salmon and trout occupied almost 10 yrs. Two yrs ago had 3 out of state licenses. But you what? would do it all over again in a heart beat.

Its sad but the powers that be, figured out that if they give 15 or twenty years to pay they can get the monthlies down to were SOME Joe Shmoe's would sing on the bottom line, and some will JMO

Yep your right and yeah it's nice to fish out of these nice boats but the new wears off and then your stuck making 500 a month payments for 20 years. No thanks. I'll continue to spend a little too much on tackle or fishing trips.

    Re: Cost of Fishing?

I've looked at buying a new aboat and almost bought one last summer. Now I'm glad I didn't, my twelve-year old garage-kept Tracker 175 is running better than ever and still looks great for its age. I see a lot of big super fast bass boats on the water every weekend and wonder how in the world that guy can afford it. My fishing buddy questions what kind of home he tows that boat home to? I've got a great job, but there's no way I can afford one of those bass boats. I'll always have a good reliable boat, boat first and foremost, I'll have a good home to park it at.

every man does his own thing, some will pay the new price. mostly very young guys. I bought a new boat when i was a young guy. sometimes the payment was tough to make. I kept it a long time. and enjoyed it, but wished many times i hadn't bought it. last year i got to wanting another, and looked at some new ones. but i didn't want one bad enough to go through that again. looked on craigslist for three or four months. found a 2005 nitro that an older guy had bought new at the louisville boat show. the garage he kept it in had 2 inches clearance from rubbing the finders. him and his fishing buddy had to put it in his garage by hand. so it was so much trouble, he left it parked and fished with his friend. it was 4 years old, and had 17 hours on it. I bought it for 1/2 the price his paper work showed he payed for it at the louisville boat show. so something to think about. buy a good used boat, and have more money to spend on gas and lures. their are good deals out their, just go slow while searching. you'll find it.

That is the problem with the world today, A guy like me who lives in his means has to pay for the guy who doesnt, but yet they had fun doing it, if you can afford it more power to you, you deserve it. If you cant dont buy it my first boat was 1,400.00 still have it is it ugly yes does it float yes does it run good yes, can you catch fish out of it yes, well sometimes.
