    Boat Advice

Recently I bought a 14ft alum boat from a guy at work. Today I took it out for a test run and was not to happy with it. Too tipy.

Its a good setup but I just need something more stable in deep water. I got it for a lot less than its worth so I;m thinking of reselling it an making a little off of it. http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/l...ke/newboat.jpg

I'm on a budget of about 2k. I've been seeing nice bass boats with no motor on them for sell. Their is a 91 ranger on the local craigslist.com with everything but the motor for 1700.

MIGHT BE A CRAZY IDEA but has anyone ever heard of someone using one of these boats with just the trolling motor? Or with like a 10hp Johnson? I was thinking I could put an electric winch on the trailer to pull the boat in.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

I don't know much about setting up boats, but I don't like the way that trolling motor is setup...Maybe adding something like a small deck on the front to mount the trolling motor to would help out the boat being tipy...Not sure but maybe...Just a thought...Balancing out your weight on the boat with everything being set up is the key I believe...

catfish bob, look on lexingtons craigslist. under boats. scroll down to friday january the 15 and theirs a < skeeter bass boat with a 80 mercury > in the picture it don't look bad, and the add says it runs good. priced for 1300.00 it may be what your looking for. located in georgetown. theirs a river right in town, to try it out in. tip on checking motor. run it long enough to get it warmed up real good. cut it off and restart it. some older motors start good cold but don't start good after they get hot. ps.. I don't know anything about the boat or the owner, just read your post. and saw this boat and thought it may be one you might like.

Where would you want to fish with the rig? From the picture, it looks like you might live in Does Valley, or Nolin? For fishing lakes and not going all that far, then sure, you could just hang a 10 horse on it. I'd forget about the electric winch. Instead just a good hand winch, and put the triler in pretty deep when you bring it out. I've put a 20 foot pontoon on the trailer with nothing more than a trolling motor, and only 2 or 3 turns of the winch that way. Works great, and really saves the boat hull because you are "floating it on the trailer rather than "forcing it up there".
