    mercury auto oiler..... help

had a knock come in my mercury motor. tore it apart, had a piston scared up. from not getting enough oil. I just finished rebuilding it. haven't started it yet. I'm going to plug the auto oiler off, and mix the oil in the gas tank myself. the plastic container that holds the oil, has wires going to it. it's an alarm, to let you know when the oil tank is low. I can plug the oil line and put enough oil it the oil container, to keep the alarm from going off. but I have a question, for someone that knows. can I cut the wires, that go to the oil tank. and tie them together. will this stop the alarm from going off? if not, whats the best way to do this. thanks for any help.
