Re: What brand of onboard charger ?

I bought my boat in May 2000. After doing a lot of comparrison shoping (for the boat and charger) I bought and installed a DUAL PRO two bank, with 15 amps per bank. I checked my batteries yesterday and they were fine. Both lights on the charger were green. I keep my charger plugged in YEAR ROUND,. 24/7 when I am not on the water. That brings up an:

IMPORTANT POINT, after all the research and talking with people, everyone said: make sure you get a charger that SHUTS OFF AFTER IT REACHES FULL CHARGE. In other words, do not use a trickle charger but keep it plugged in when not in use. The Dual Pro turns on and off when/if the charge falls below a certain point.

DUAL PRO is now called PRO CHARGING SYSTEMS and their web site is:

    http://www.dualpro.com/home/

Check out their products, but you will probably want a PROFESSIONAL SERIES, which comes with 1, 2, 3, or 4 banks. I have never had to use thier customer service, but comments on here and other fishing sites I have seen, say that they are number one: THEY USUALLY REPLACE SOMETHING EVEN IF IT IS OUT OF WARRENTY.

    Hope this helps,

    Grumpy

I have a three bank Dual Pro as well, but did notice that Tackle Warehouse has Minn Kota on board battery chargers on sale today. I don't know anything about that brand of chargers, but might be worth looking at since it just so happens to be on sale. Hope this helps.

I can brag on the dual pro as well. I've had a three bank for about 5 years with absolutely no problems.

I also have a Minn Kota and installed it myself in 5 min and it works great on all three of my batteries. I also keep the juice on mine year round and it shuts on and off when needed.

StayNCharge. Best investment I've ever made!

When I'm on the water all day long using trolling motor so when the trolling batteries are discharged (quickly on windy days) then crank up the outboard letting it run for 10 mins either idling or hit other spot and all the batteries will be full charged. What's great about this charger is that it charge while your ON the water and while towing to and from the lake!

This special charger works only for 24-36 volts trolling motor.
