    ohio river fishing

I never fished the ohio river before, but after talking to chuck, and doug on here. I think I'll try it a few times this year. my wife wants to go and visit our daughter, next tuesday and wednesday. I thought I might drag my boat alone, and try the river. I know it's to high right now. but do any of you river fishermen think it will be down and the fishing will be any good by next tuesday. thanks, for any info.

Next Tuesday it will still be high and quite muddy. Fishable yes, but if you have never negotiated ramps on the river in high current conditions this would not be a good time for your maiden voyage, just my two cents.

thanks, for the reply. I may wait a little longer, to try it. all the fishing I've done lately, has been on laurel and cumberland. and without any action. needing to try some new water. when I go to my daughters house, is the only time I'm in that area. so I thought about trying it. but I'd rather wait until the water conditions are a little better. and I thank you for the info, thats a long way to drag my boat and not get to fish.

I would not recommend you try this alone on your first trip. It is especially difficult to put your boat back on the trailer in the current.

Regardless of Ohio river conditions, I don't think you should launch or operate on the river without an experienced fellow boater on board. That ol' river can be pretty demanding at times.

Be safe and try to get an experienced Ohio river hand to go with you.

Maybe they'll even show you a sweet spot to fish.

Depending on where your daughter lives, you still may be able to find some new water though.

she lives at crestwood, and i'd like to fish the river with you sometime. I've never caught a big blue before, but I do plan on getting one this year. and anything over 25 pounds for me will be a big one.

Chuck gets mad at me when I catch them that small, lol. You'll love it, it's very additive once you start and tangle with one over 35lb's or so.

Doug is a fine river rat, he can show you the ropes.

sounds like your friend chuck, uses the size I would call big for bait. I've never really fished for large cats before. I love to smallmouth fish at night, sometimes I put out a few limb lines to catch some eating size cats. fish for about 3 hours, then run by where my limb lines are. shine a spot light and sometimes the limbs are shaking pretty hard. I've caught a lot of blue cats like this. but nothing big. some time when you guys are going, I'd like to meet up with doug. and see if I could land one that chuck would call medium size.

that sounds good to me, I plan on fishing the river a few times this year. even if I have to fish it by myself. but it would be a lot more fun with someone like you. I have a good boat, it's not a big boat. it's only 16 ft. but we can use it. besides it will make that 100 lb blue that we will catch look bigger. or I can go with you. either way, it don't matter with me. I just want to go with someone that knows whats going on. I was planning on coming up their tuesday, but the water is to high. what do you think about next sunday or monday. you think the water will be down by then.
