Barren's walleye population?

Anyone heard anything on the status of Barrens recently stocked walleye populations? I heard there should be some harvestable fish this year.

I was never able to find exactly where they dumped the fingerlings at. It only said above the lake. There is a lot of river "above the lake." If anybody hangs into one, please, please, please take a picture. I am sure the bios who worked on this project would be interested to know their progress.

I got it from a pretty good source that they stocked them at Brown's Ford.

Haven't heard of anyone catching any of them yet tho.

Brown's Ford would be the easiest place it would seem. However, that doesn't fit with the "above the lake" bit of the new release. According to the regs the lake extends to HWY 100 up Barren River and Long Creeks. I have an e-mail out to the regional fisheries bio. Hopefully I get an answer today on it.

News: Stocked annually at four sites above the HWY 100 bridge since 07. Keeper-sized walleye present (15"+).

Sounds good to me. Seems like that the walleyes' success and growth would indicate a healthy fishery. Congrats to the KDFWR and Biologists who have worked on this project. If anybody happens to catch one please take a picture and some measurements. Fish should be running now.

Actually e-mailed the biologist about a month ago. He said that the walleye DFW had come across sampling looked good and healthy. They were planning on going out to do some sampling and seemed very optimistic the program is working. It's entering the 4th year of stocking and he said the next 2 years should tell them alot of the walleye will take off.

DFW also stocked Wood Creek Lake for this program but the results haven't been as good. Their are some big females the DFW use as broodfish, but overall numbers aren't good.

Heading to Carr Creek Lake this weekend for the first time after walleye. Carr Creek has the best walleye rating by DFW and the regional biologist says that the numbers of 15"-28" with the some females reaching 12-13lbs! Being a small lake (710 acres), walleye in post-spawn, and good numbers hopefully equates to daily limits!
