Do not hesitate slowride; ....you need to put it in overdive...Ky lake is ON...right now!!!..Got serverial reports of big big bass being caught on Ky. Lake this past weekend...it's on right now!!! My brother, and a good friend of mine (fishing separate) will be fishing for the next 4 days in a row (one mostly on Barkely, and the other mostly on Ky. Lake); that is how good it is right frecken now...they know whats up! I will have a detailed report Monday or Tue....on both of their experiences hear on the board. I will be fishing Lake Cumberland for the next 4 days; going out of Lee's Ford two days...and Burnside two days...we all are bass fishing only. Will for sure have a report on Monday on my Lake Cumberland experience... and the Kincaid Bassmaster Club results out of Burnside Sunday.
Im going to predict that it will take 24 lbs. (a possible ten fish limit.. partner tourney), to take the Kincaid Bassmasters victory. I will also say that a 6lb largemouth will come to the scales to take the big bass prize!
I got wind of this on another board.
The wildcat tourney on Ky last week took over 29lbs, none were greenfishthe second place sack was 27lb & had one largemouth.
this tourney paid out two places for big fish, there was a 7lb largemouth weighed in & it didn't place.
the two big fish were both smallmouth
big fish was over 8lb
I have never fished Ky,with stories like that makes ya want to head that way!
Good news. I've got Dave Stewart booked for next weds and I hope to be holding my sore arm in some ice for the days following. We'll be fishing all day tuesday and wednesday so it should be good and wore out. Bring on the 5 plus pounders!!!!!! I'll be headin down on tues morn early so please post any activity known to produce.
Thx,
Jason
WHHHHAAAT???? That's hard to believe. Not doubting your story but wow. That would have to rate KY lake as one of the best smallmouth fisheries in the US if that is correct. I need some proof. Dave...did you hear anything about this.I got wind of this on another board.

Im sure Dave can tell you the same;...but that report is accurate; a club member was in it, ... called me to tell me what he witnessed! I wasn't at all suprised...two years ago...last weekend in March...I was in a tournament going out of Ky. Dam Marina (over 70 boats)...and the winner that year had 27 pounds...all were smallies...all over at 5lbs!!! The largest smallie for that tournament was an giant 8 pounder!!!
Kentucky Lake...is one of the best smallmouth fisheries in the world in Feb/ March and April (my opinion)...it just gets real tough during the summer / early fall of course.
But you can catch a smallmouth...anytime...anywhere on both lakes. I had a partner catch a 5 pound smallie during a tournament in 3 feet of water...with 89 degree water temp, on Barkley Lake...so go figure??
Wow, that's awesome. I would've liked to seen that bag of smallmouth.
yea...it was the best sack of bass I'd ever seen in person!! We had 20+ pounds that day,...5-fish limit...called the wife...friends..father...they all showed up at the weigh-in to see us take first place right, ...thought for sure we had it in the bag;....only to come in 7th place!?!?! We had all largemouths....we were blown away with the sacks of smallmouths that came in that day. Wind was blowing 30mph...cold...spiting rain all day...The weekend before (3rd weekend in March 2007)...it took 19 pounds to win a BFL...so after we had around 20+ pounds the week after...thought it was a done deal...WRONG. Never will make that mistake again.
yea, that report was not made up.I trust the source, but I did not see it first hand.
it got my attention real quick
I will do some checking on the report on the Wildcat tournament for this past weekend...I heard that 21 lbs of green fish won it and 14lbs took 4th place, but there was a tourney on far south end of Ky Lake with that kind of bag a couple of weeks ago. I do know for a fact that The Bassmaster weekend series this past Saturday on Ky Lake was won with 24lbs of green fish and 15lbs took 4th place...Fishers of Men here last Saturday was won with 12lbs. Someone is pulling your leg about the lake being on fire down here unless they are fishing 80-100 miles south of Ky Dam...good bags that are topping these tournaments are coming from that area by guys making very long runs. Example: half the field in BASS tourney had one or zero fish...same thing happened to half the field in BFL weekend before: some nice big bags from top of the field that made 80 plus mile runs south...Fishers of Men tourney here this past Saturday only had one limit weighed in. Lot of the big name sticks in BFL and BASS tourney here last two weeks zeroed or had one a fish or two because they stayed up on north ends of the lakes. Now either all my sources that report to me daily or semi daily are doing something terribly wrong and I am doing something terribly wrong, or this is the slowest March I have seen in many years on these lakes north ends overall. We are catching a few good fish but not anywhere near the numbers of big fish we normally catch this time of year...and the Smallmouth fishing has been weak at best in comparison with the past years from about 3 years back...if someone is tearing up numbers of big smallmouth they are keeping a big secret. Offdtop's report is pretty much a mirror of reports from locals fishing the north ends of both lakes. Now if you want to Crappie fish (which I don't), the folks here have been having one of the best Crappie bites in years.

you are right on dave, i have been fishing couple times a week and the bite has slowed dramatically in last two weeks. people in my bass club that i run into at the ramps are blanking on a daily basis now. it is slooooooooooooooooooow on the north end.
