    Question for Dave Stewart???

Have they started pulling Barkley back down? I saw as of yesterday that it was a little over summer pool. Hopefully they won't drain it like a bathtub when they do pull the plug because we are getting to that magic time of year when the water temp and weather get right.

    Thanks

Where do you see it is over summer pool. Kentuckylake.com shows Barkley is 357.6, up 1.5 feet in the past 24 hours and summer pool is 359.

359.34 @ 1100 3/29/10 ........................thats over summer pool by my calculations.

Problem here is when will it stop coming up and when will they start pulling the plug. A foot a day rise is not too bad this time of year but a foot a day drop is a killer. No matter which way the water is going the fishing will get tough until it stabalizes.

I am seeing 359 as of this morning online too. I have no inside information but they are due to bring it to summer pool starting this upcoming week so I would bet they would only drop it slightly if at all. The word was with the flooding on the big rivers is why they starting holding the lakes a week or two back.

Same here....358+ and rising, call it 359 for planning purposes. See Link below. I'm heading West on Monday and plan on spending the week fishing Barkley, maybe Ky.

They start bringing the lakes up the first week of April and normally they let it come up slow until summer pool around the last of last of April or the first of May and try to keep it there until July. They will not let it stay at summer pool this early in the season if they can help it because it doesn't give them any storage capacity for spring rains. There is not debate that when they can they will pull the plug, the million dollar question is how much/how soon.

You can also use this one for KY and other lakes:

    Re: Question for Dave Stewart???

We are slightly over summer pool this morning..projection right now is for more rising water today/tomorrow...all based on how the flood is going on Ohio and Mississippie Rivers. Don't be surprised if the TVA dumps a bunch of water as soon as they can...we normally do not reach summer pool until last week in April.

How will that effect fishing? I understand current means the bite turns on. Am I wrong?

Current on the ledges in the summer and opening all the gates dumping water are two different things. The current on the ledges is small amounts of water passing through the dams, dumping water like they probably will do is very large amounts of water going through the dams.

A comparison would be summer current at less than 40 and dumpiing at over 100,000. The summer current is cycled at certain times of the day the dumping usually happens until the lake gets down to the desired level.

Current is great, dumping is horrible for fishing and especially in the spring when fish are starting to move up.
