Many ground blind manufacturers have started adding hunter orange attachments with their blinds. In Indiana hunter orange is required to be worn and part of the requirement is that it not be covered. There is something of a gray area as the blind obviously does (or can) cover the orange, hunter and all.
With that being said. We once again are forced to revisit that age old problem of people lacking common sense. Common sense should dictate that you not use a blind where the hunting location is accessible to other hunters who would be unaware of your location. And that if you did decide to do so you should place hunter orange on the outside of the blind to help point out your position to other hunters. And if you see any hunters make them aware of your location as soon and safely as possible.
This same issue relates as to why are just hunters required to wear hunter orange during hunting seasons on public land. I have encountered many people on public land during the hunting season who decide the first day of shotgun season is the best time to take a hiking excursion through the woods. I have seen everything from church groups to boy scouts hiking obliviously through the woods as the sounds of shotgun blasts echo through the woods repeatedly. None of which were wearing orange and many wearing white. Many a time they have passed without knowing my presence as they walk obliviously through the woods. Other times they finally see me and about crap their pants. Frankly, seeing this activity scares the dickens out of me because I know there are a lot of hunters who lack experience and discression when taking a shot.
With that being said there is no law that is ever going to replace the best advice being sure of your target and your shot, and know what is in front of and beyond your target. It is each hunters responsiblity to be as safe as possible. Hopefully someone will read stories like yours and others and stop and think before their next trip to the woods.
