Did you miss the CEO of BP tap dance around who's fault it was? They only get the oil, the rig owners are responsible for the safe operation.and yada yada yada.that used to be an american company once. So thank the stock holders who sold us out.

THEN they should NEVER be allowed to do business in this country again.
We need OIL, but we don't NEED them providing it.......

With all the finger pointing going on, I wonder if we will EVER find the real truth.....
My guess.........poor oversight........and HAD this rig been inspected instead of getting a safety pass, this may have been prevented........

BP knew about it, alright:

Only problem I have with your post is that you seem to think that BP is somehow worse than the rest of their cronies in the oil business. Or are you saying we should shut them ALL down?
Well, I think they ALL do some stuff in the "grey" but if BP knowingly operated this rig with faulty safety components........they should be HAMMERED.BP knew about it, alright:

If you cannot drill it safely, you shouldn't be drilling.
Personally, I don't know WHY we drill in the gulf when ANWAR is a much better solution.
Not only that, I think if we'd invest the moneys necessary we could drill enough oil from the Tar Sands and Shale that exist to completely wean us off Foreign OIL.
BUT we REFUSE to drill......

That has to be safer than drilling in the Ocean.
Told a co-worker yesterday if they knew of this and chose to turn a blind eye, lay the hammer on them in every way possible.
I still say, do any of you find it Ironic that a week after Obama announces he wants to do more drilling this happens?? Probably just coincidence, but?????????????
Right on! It's gotta be safer than what we're doing now, and we should have been developing this technology for years now. If we had, we might well be currently producing oil for much less than we're paying our <sarcasm> BFF's in the Middle East for it. Let's just keep in mind that no matter where we get the oil from, it's still a FINITE resource, and our ultimate goal has to be to develop an affordable, RENEWABLE energy source.Well, I think they ALL do some stuff in the "grey" but if BP knowingly operated this rig with faulty safety components........they should be HAMMERED.

Agree 100%. We should have been working hard on this right after the first energy crisis in the 1970's.

Everyone in the DIRECT chain of command for investigating and inspecting OIL Rigs in the gulf should be FIRED.........better yet.......CHARGED with FRAUD.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/37179888/ns/gulf_oil_spill/
AND I'm including ANYONE and EVERYONE in the past Bush Administration that may have been involved.
THIS BS really needs to STOP.
From the Story, only 1 out of every 4 inspections over the past 5 years was performed. AND the inspections are supposed to be monthly........
HM.
This just keeps getting worse and worse.
I'm glad it's not just we Greenies who are honked off about it.
I'm happily surprised that there hasn't been a HUGE wash-up of oil yet. I hope this is a good sign that this won't be the kind of catastrophe many of us thought it would be.
Remember the day this rig blew? First reports from BP were that there was NO oil leaking. Now they admit to 5,000 barrels a day, but others say it's much, much more. I seriously doubt it's not more than the 5,000 barrels BP admits to.
Sorry, but at this moment, I am no longer okay with ANY increase in offshore drilling, even as a stop-gap measure.

Road Toad, we'll see if your tune changes when gas hits $5 or $8 or $10 a gallon.
Grumpy
I agree with Grumpy on this one. There is nothing wrong with off shore drilling it just has to be regulated and watched closer as Geo touched on. Make them accountable and make them spend some of that 20 billion dollar a quarter profit to fix what needs to be fixed so this never happens again.
Quite simply, DO IT, but do it right!
