Is paying 50k - 70k to rescue EACH oil soaked bird worth it??

I was watching a show last night that stated that it cost roughly 70k for EACH bird that was rescued from the Exxon Valdez spill.

    Is that worth it??

While I believe we should try, the statistics posted on the show determined that nearly 50% of the birds rescued died within 2 years.

They also discussed Otters, and other wildlife, and I'm just wondering if that is a legitimate expense. Keep in mind..........NOT ONE person whose way of life has been destroyed in the Gulf Mess, has been paid a single cent.

Man I'm feeling like this is a very tough call to make but I say nope. It's not worth it based upon those stats. 90k for an otter? Really?

Are they illegals or something cause that sounds more like what we spend on them for healthcare.

Heck no! But spending 25 bucks for a fishing lure is not worth it to me either.Besides, why spend all that money on critters? Did we need passenger [pigeons, nope, Seen my share of dolphins, no big lose.Couldn't enjoy our camping trip to custer because of the buffalo turds all over the place. Who needed praire chickens, in fact who needs praires? We almost got rid of those stupid wood ducks and canada geese, but some do gooders screwed that up.I seen a lot of that stuff, as far as I am concerned, why bother.

Great idea. Or take the non violent criminals out of our jails and MAKE them clean them up for free. If they complain knock an industrial size knot on the back of their head and send them back to their cell and get a new one.

Looking at the cost I say no. It is a tough one but that is a lot of money. But if BP keeps paying the bill let the out of work fishermen and motel folks do the work to make up for their lack of business.
