Hooking my faithful four legged fishing companion.

Went to laurel lake last night and let a real winner go due to human error. Had an Alabama Craw brush hog on with a carolina rig and hood a very good smally and lost it because of the way I tied my hook. Had a fishermans knot tied and knew better. Hook came off line as fish was at the boat. It was an honest 7.5 to 8 pounder. Made me sick to my stomach. What is one of the worst mistakes you guys have made while fishing due to human error?![]()
Hooking my faithful four legged fishing companion.
I have lost a few fish because i didnt retie after roughing up the line in heavy cover...
Bank fishing when I was a kid in a 5+- acre farm pond with a good bass population using my old trusty zebco 33. I didn't know/think much about adjusting the drag. Mistake. I had never set the drag. I was reeling in my Rapala silver minnow when I felt a thud, stopping the lure dead. Then, it just about jerked me into the water (literally jerked me four feet toward the water) and the line snapped. I'd guess that was a big, old catfish, but I'll never know. I wish my drag had been set so I stood a chance. It could have been the 8-10lb bass I've been chasing my whole life.
biggest fishing mistake due to human error? probably letting my wife use a rapala crankbait dt16. caught me instead of fish. her first reaction was how sorry she was appoligizing over and over. by the time we had reached the ramp she had somehow convinced herself that it was my fault that she had hooked me because i had handed her a rod and reel that she dont normaly use, i dont know how a diffrent rod and reel can effect your eye sight or lack of. especially when its a 20 ft boat with one person on each end. still havent figured out her thinking/rational on this or anything for that matter.

Set the hook on a 8lbs largemouth in some brush. It darted in deep but I managed to pull it out of there. Then for some unkown reason when I got it to the boat decided to swing it in instead of useing the net. 12lbs flourocarbon that just got roughed up in the woods was no match for 8lbs of bass. It snapped off right at the tip of the rod and I watched that monster bounce off the trolling motor and back into the lake. I wanted to lay down and cry............
Throwing a redfin into a Striper jumps that had sea gulls circling and diving. Caught the gull....not Striper hook ups.
I once dropped two 3 lb bass in the lake carrying them from teh boat to teh cleaning station...
