This past week i hooked into a 13" black nose crappie. How rare is it to catch a Black Nose, and what would you consider a "trophy size" fish?

Very common in very fertile waters.
They are a cool fish to catch, but they are not that uncommon. I mainly crappie fish, and I don't catch a ton of them, I do catch them every year. As far as a trophy fish, thats in the eye of the beholder.
Here is the definition of a black-nose crappie according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Research Institute, "A blacknose crappie is just a black crappie with a wide, dominant black stripe running from the top fin to the tip of the nose. Untrained observers can easily recognize this stripe." I have seen these on GRL before and I was reasonable sure they were black crappie with a kind of genetic abnormality.
Not un-common and 16" plus
