    Re: what tackle for swimbaits?

I have 3 swimbait outfits depending on the size of the swimbait.
Fig Rig Hvy rod with a Calcutta 400 for the 3oz plus baits
Okuma 7'6mh swimbait rod with cardiff 300 for 1-3oz baits
Okuma 7'6mh swimbait rod with Browning Citori wide spool for 1-2oz baits

I can go past these specs some so I have flexibility. Anything much less than 1oz I usually throw on Cranking rod of Flippin stick. With hollow belly baits I either use a flippn stick or the Citori combo. I like alot of backbone and a soft tip with those baits because I am usually throwing them around heavy cover. You need to know if the baits are 4-5in it makes a difference in hook size. I would say use a 5/0 most likely. I usually buy them with the weights on shanks already. The clamp on sinkers move around too much.

I use the small money minnows (3"?)on spinning tackle with the smaller weighted hooks. I think they are 3/16 but I don't know for sure. If I'm using the bigger swim baits I go larger in tackle and weight. I have learned to toss these baits anywhere at any time especially around cover.

Watching KVD the other day and he was doing a segment on swimbaits. The swimbait hooks he was using had an adjustable weight that you could adjust on the hook. Slide it forward for deeper depht back for shollower swimming. You could control the swiming depht by adjusting the position of the weight. Anyone seen these?

It sounds like the soft sebile magic swimmer. They come with weights you can adjust. The swimbait weights made to clip on hooks would do that as well.

I use the money minnow hooks, but i use them in shadlicious swim baits as i had issues with money minnow having very little action without burning them through the water...
