    Ky lake help

Heading to Ky lake next weekend and was wondering what I can expect in terms of bass and bluegill fishing. I always go in the spring and I am unfamiliar with summer patterns. Any help would be appreciated.

Bass for numbers = go top water early and late
for size = they're everywhere scattered

I'll second that on surface early and late for bass. During the day the ledge bite is the ticket as Dave describes in his reports. For bluegills I used to catch them pretty well with my kids during the summer fishing the gravel bars on the east side of the lake in the morning after the surface bite went away. We would switch to ultralight crank baits like the small rebel craw and would do pretty good on bluegills and plenty other finny creatures of the smaller persuasions. I remember playing a game with the kids in seeing how many different species we could catch that morning. I think 11 was our record...

Just came back today from there, fished from around Suger Bay down past Turkey Bay. Topwater bite was tough, but smaller fish (-14") were busting bait on surface frequently from daybreak til about 10am, and after 9pm on ledges. Didn't catch big numbers, fish were scattered, probably b/c of the lack of current. Temps yesterday were 79 morning, 85 afternoon on main, pushing 90 in creeks. Ledge bite produced a few 3's and and 4# Lm, with C-rig. Had some luck on cranks in the morning. My Dad had one LM over 8#, but came unbuttoned at the boat from an LBL ledge. Maybe you'll have better luck than we did. .

I live on the lake and fish regularly. For me, ledge fishing has been tough unless they are pulling some current. What current they have been pulling has been from about 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM, which is also when it is the hottest. I've been catching fish on jigs, big worms and shaky heads. When they are pulling current, you can catch a limit of 3-5# fish from main lake ledges, but you must fish S-L-O-W.

Bluegill can be caught around gravel bars, but also are around deeper docks on the W side.

If you fish in the heat of the day. drink lots of water!
