Most are at about 25 ft.
Thanks. Much appreciated....on my way!!!
Where are they located the most and are you using live bait?
Seems like some are in the mouths of creeks. Using shinners now. Try to use bait out of the lake when time allows. Alewife and treadfin. Might start trying to dget some gizzares now but the only way I know to get them is drive way up the creek and that is a long way.
Peter if you want gizzard's try the head of Indiana in the arm up by the fall's. I was up there last week and it was full of shad there is a bouy up on the right from there too the head of the creek was plenty of shad. The bait was any were from three to fourteen inches if they are still in there like they was it won't take but a few minutes to catch all the bait you want.
I don't keep a log but if memory serves... shouldn't the stripes be deeper than they are right now? I mean 85+ degree water and mid-July and the stripes are still at 25 ft? Sounds more like Norris than Cumberland....
Alewives are almost dead on the hook by the time you drop em down. Sounds like a great time to pull some u-rigs if they stay that shallow.
I wish the marinas would have a guy with a cash box at the shiner tanks an hour before dark in the summer mornings. They could make a lot of money that way (or at least keep the fisherman happy). The bites usually over by the time they open and I hate buying them the night before.
BTW, nice meeting you Peter. That spot usually produces all summer although it's a pain to fish...
Great to meet you on the lake! Yeah the Alewives just don't last long now. A guy gave me some gizzards though and they seemed to to pretty good. Guess it's shinner time.
There is not supposed to be much O2 below 25' to 30' then it picks up again some below 50. Most fish I got were with sinkers at 25' Got some later at 32' on the advice of a kind striper fisherman beside me. I guess maybe different parts of the lake can have different O2 based on channels, obstructions, wind etc.
Good luck. See you around the lake later this summer I am sure.
Peter
Thanks. I was going to ride up and look but it is a long ride for me. Now I can go up there with confidence.
