Unless that area is hurting for outdoor goods you ain't getting much. We have had two here in Lex for a few years and one of them for 7 or 8? I can't think of the last time I purchased anything from them. Local tackle shops, Bass Pro, Tackle Warehouse, Cabelas are better IMO.![]()
Tacklewarehouse is awesome, they seem to have everything, I have recieved 2 orders from them i n the last week!!!! And this area's not hurting for tackle shops in fact across the street is Gander Mountain and 2 miles away is Dunn's sporting goods which is a pretty big place themselves. I really don't understand why they located there and not try to capitolize being closer to KY Lake!!! JMO
Man I agree TW is hard to beat and with orders over $50 getting free ground shipping it really works out!
I used to manage the fishing dept in a DSG store in Erie, Pa. When I ran it, we had a TON of fishing tackle for all species. After I left, they moved to a different location and downsized the fishing department until they may as well have tossed it altogether. I don't imagine they've improved much in that department.
Can you imagine if Bass Pro built a store behind Cracker Barrel there in Calvert City, or maybe even next Love's? That would be the end of the little guys for sure.....
Hopefully we won't ever see that and we can use the local shops where you get real service and people that know fishing when you visit.
True, but I can't say I've ever been impressed by the local guys' prices...especially on those baits you read about in a certain someone's fishing reports........![]()
Your dreaming....the stores here don't charge more for a lure just because it is in my fishing report or any other fishing report....if you have proof of this let me know...I will quit dealing with any store that charges more for a watermelon/purple timber pup than a junebug one just because it is in my fishing report. If you don't have proof, which I am sure you will not, you owe some good folks down here an apology for making such a statement.
You may pay a little more for a lure in a local shop vs one of the big box stores....that's true...you pay for what you get...and service is not in the vocabulary of the box stores.
"service is not in the vocabulary of the box stores."
Dave, I beg to differ with that staement. While I do try to patronize local stores where/when ever possible, I have found the customer service to be of the highest quality in all of the Bass Pro Shops and Cabelas I have ever visted, as well as from the telephonic customer service. BTW, over the years I have visited BPS in Clarksville, IN: Destin, FL; Spanish Fort AL; Cincinnatti, OH; and Denver, CO; and I have visited Cabalas in Dundee, MI (a bunch of times) Hammond, IN; Wheat Ridge, CO, Sidney and Kearney, NE (both NE stores several times).
Grumpy
I guess we just have a difference of opinion on what is high quality service. By the way, I have traveled the country too...been in many of the stores you mentioned and some you did not...even done seminars at some of them.
Last time I was in a Bass Pro shop (within the past year)....I waited for 5 minutes at a counter in front of two clerks while they discussed their personal lives and finally had to ask them if one of them wanted to wait on me today or should I come back tomorrow? My visit before that I asked a clerk in the fishing department where their spoons was located (not any specific spoon...just where are the spoons...and his reply was "is that a lure or something else?". I can get that kind of service at Wal Mart.
usually some good looking women wander thru the fitness section, so its not totally a waste.
