I've had success from the bank but not a lot...I've only fished from the bank when I made the trip down there only to find the water to high to wade. This is usually in the fall though...I haven't checked things out but I would think you wouldn't have a lot of trouble wading it right now, but I don't know for sure.
Rivers up about ten feet 9'000 cfs. lots of people bank fish if you know where to go. find a gravel bar and you should be okay. Dont let the high water run you off, fish still got to eat. River was down for quite awhile so high water puts them back on the move in my opion. Seen some big ol' trout caught off the bank and some good walleye.
I live close by. [less than 4 miles] I have been catching walleyes and sauger from the bank right at dark to a little after.

You can hit Hatchery Creek and catch a few to eat there. We did when we camped down there and the bigger trout came from using small minnows.
In Colorado no one would fish during the high water runoff but like someone else said "they have to eat" and some of the biggest fish in the river will be less than 2 feet from the bank just find a big undercut and fish it.
Thanks for all the info we caught a bunch but now keeper browns but had a blast. Good day on the river.
Also live close by (Jamestown). Assume you are bank fishing below the dam? Fishing live bait or throwing jerkbaits? Maybe I'll see you there some evening. Good fishing to you

Throwing clown colored cranks and 3" curl tailed jigs on 3/8 oz. heads. I probably seen you there, I fish there about 3 nights a week. Dave
I caught a couple of nice browns, around 18 in, and I noticed that they had one of there back fins cut off, what is this for, both were missing the same one from the same side, is this for marking them when they do surveys or what, also caught a lot more browns than bows, had only two keeper bows, but caught over 8 browns, all were caught on night crawlers, caught several small drum also, had a blast even though the water was up and fast, caught all trout at Helms off the bank and then we wnet to Crocus and caight severl drum and one small brown. thanks for all the info, man those browns fight good. Also are the bows not as plentiful now? Used to catch several but they were not to be found Sat.
they had a show on kentucky afeild showing where and why they snipped the fins off the browns. Can't remember what the purpose was but they all were cut at same time and release. Wild scene the had all kinds of people at hatchery just snipping away. I caught a few of them last year. seems like the browns and bows keep a distance between themselfs?I caught a couple of nice browns, around 18 in, and I noticed that they had one of there back fins cut off, what is this for, both were missing the same one from the same side, is this for marking them when they do surveys or what, also caught a lot more browns than bows, had only two keeper bows, but caught over 8 browns, all were caught on night crawlers, caught several small drum also, had a blast even though the water was up and fast, caught all trout at Helms off the bank and then we wnet to Crocus and caight severl drum and one small brown. thanks for all the info, man those browns fight good.
