Fishing in the Mammoth Cave NP

    Hi all,
I am planning a family trip to Mammoth Cave next month. When I look at the map, the first thing I notice is the long river running through it. Any one have any fishing tips on this river? Species to expect? Techniques? Thanks.

That's probably the green river your looking at. It has a good population of bluegill, channel cats, flathead cats, and some muskie. Also largemouth and ky. Bass. Nolin river also goes thru the park, but it's alot more isolated, very narrow, has a lot of stick-ups. Same fish though... Tr

you need a boat or canoe acess to river remote as to all natural forest lines river banks. I usually canoe and camp over nite on the gravel bars. You can camp anywhere in the flood plain. thats considered 100 ft. from the waters edge. I usually bank fish and theres some big ol' fish in the green. theres all the above mentioned fish plus some big ol drum and some good walleye. Good place to go and get away. And you don't need a license inside the parks boundrys. Gret place.

Canoed through teh park a few times but never fished it. Lots of lay downs and plenty of good spots to catch fish it would seem... I did spot some very large musky just under the surface that at first i thought were gar til i got a good look at their heads... This is my first trip as soon as i buy my fishing kayak..

I have been fishing in the park quite a bit lately and was fishing in it until after dark last night with the moon almost full. The river is a little muddy right now and their isn't good visibility. You can check the water level and flow at:

There are a lot of trees that have fallen recently and they make a good place to throw a top water buzz bait and I caught a few largemouths around the trees a few days ago.

I caught this muskie in the park on July 4th.

    Good luck!!
