Fished for about 6 hours today. 2 boats there when I got there and none on the water after the first hour out so that was nice for a change. Water temps were 89-91 so it's still warming up. Usual spots weren't really doing much so I moved towards the island. The bay before the island and in front of the island are loaded with grass. Picked up a few pretty quick on the red shad culprit. With all the thick clouds blocking out the sun I switched to a buzz bait. Man was that a great idea. Picked up 2 over 4 and lost one that looked pretty good when he drug me into the grass. I also caught quite a few in the 2-3 pound range. All and all 4 keepers over 18". And a lot of 15-17" fish. 7" worms aren't cutting it. You need at least 10" to get a nibble. Black and black/chart jigs are also doing pretty well, but only if you're using huge trailers. Cranks, traps and spinners have all but completely died off for me. Key right now on location seems to be grass that's deep or grass with deep water close by.
