Question Wading the South Fork Licking??

Anyone been wading the South Fork Licking River between Cynthiana and Falmouth areas, or any stream in Central to No Ky area for Smallmouth, Redeyes, etc.?? Are they biting or are you just cooling off from the heat?? Planning on hitting the river or creeks Mon or Tues pm.
    Any info appreciated.

it's been a while sence I fished the licking river, but I've had some fun doing it in the past. here is were and how I fished it. you may want to try it. coming from lexington to cynthiana on 27. just before going into cynthiana turn left and go around by the ball field. I don't remember the road numbers. the best way to find it, would be. look on google maps, and search for a little town called BARRY. when you find it and get there. you will cross a bridge before going into barry. then you will cross the rail road tracks. turn right when you cross the tracks. follow the road alone side the tracks. for about 1/2 mile, the road will make a curve to the left as it goes under the rail road tracks. dont go under the tracks, on the right side of the road find a place to park. the river is on your right. and it makes a really big horse shoe circle. you can float the river for over half a days fishing. when you reach the bridge that you crossed going into barry. get out and you only have about a 1/2 mile walk back to your truck. we floated it in 12 foot jon boats, when going through the fast water, take something to drag and slow your boat so you have time to fish the grass on both sides of the boat. it's some good fishing, if you can find where I'm trying to tell you. you will enjoy the trip. hope this helps.

Re: Wading the South Fork Licking??

Used to fish it all the time. I always spot hit the dams and 1/4 mile or so below when wading or took the canoe. The last few times I fished the area the fish were way down but I did notice a bunch of otters instead. I'd rather have smallies than otters but I guess KDFW knows best...

This is the area where we are going. Either Berry or Robinson Dam areas. Not good news about the otters. I used to fish these areas alot, but it has been over 10 years since I last fished there. I will be coming from Campbell co.

Thumbs up Wading the South Fork Licking Report

Fished from 4:30-9:00pm in Berry and Robinson. I caught 2 keeper smallmouth, biggest was 15", several little ones. Caught 7 redeye, a channel cat and several pumpkinseeds. My friend caught a nice spot keeper, several small smallmouth, several nice redeye, a 10" crappie and lot of pumpkinseeds. Water is still low. Fish were caught on small crankbaits, crawdad colors and shad imitations. All catch and release, had a good time.

Re: Wading the South Fork Licking??

Every waterway in Kentucky is contaminated with fecal matter at some point in time. It all runs downhill and I don't drink the water. I can remember wading in the licking and hearing a rush of water coming from a pipe up on the hill. Out comes a toilet load of somebodies dinner. I waded up stream from there that day...

Bassky, sounds like you guys had a good day. Years ago I have fished the Robinson area and had legitimate 100 fish days throwing helgramites and live craws under a float.

    Re: Please read!

I was fishing the South Fork of the Licking River. I believe this article was about the middle fork main branch which is dammed to form Cave Run Lake. The spillage is below Cave Run but would affect the main river around Blue Lick State park and into Falmouth on to Cincy. The South Fork runs down around Carlisle to Cynthiana into the main Licking in Falmouth. We were OK where we were fishing. I live right on the main Licking in Campbell Co. about 15 miles south of Cincy.

Re: Wading the South Fork Licking??

The locals here in Pendleton were tearing them up around the Morgan area of the South Fork until the heatwave,I haven't had the free time to make many trips this year, but intend on going a few trips soon.Water is low even in the main river as you know BassKy.
