I had a mink chase my plug on the canney fork river once but that is just crazy.....good find
Several years ago, my fishing partner and I were on the Saganaw River at Bay City, Michigan. He made a real long, high cast towards the bank and a great big Herron came out of nowhere and grabbed his crankbait. He was using heavy line and managed to reel it in to the bow of the boat where I netted it. Needless to say that bird was not happy but my friend finally got the hooks out of its beek and we let it go. Funny now but it wasn't funny when it was happening.
The only surprising thing is that stuff like that doesn't happem more often.
Grumpy
pelicans, caught one, and had to race my baits to keep away from them.
I too caught a blue heron on Barkley on a buzzer. He swooped down out of a tree and grabbed my buzzer in shallow water but I didn't hook him - he got tangled in my line as he tried to take off still holding the buzzer in his mouth. The comical part was he kept trying to take off and I would pull him back splashing down until I got the boat up next to him and untangled him. A wet blue heron is kind of a pathetic sight much like a wet cat. After all that he still managed to give me one of their patented "bite me" squawks as he flew off.
Last fall I had a bald eagle on KY lake circle and come down on a sammy. Fortunately I was quick enough this time to yank it away from him just before he grabbed it. I am not sure which would have been worse - possibly harming a protected raptor with a treble hooked lure or losing a $16 lure to a bird. Thank goodness I didn't find out...

Last year was at nolin and the bass where busting back in a creek. I caught 5 bass with 2 of them over 2 lbs and was using poppers. My freind put on a popper and right off the bat caught a bass. Then he caught the biggest thing he could.....his finger ! Drove one of the treble hook all the way through his finger. Ended that trip !
My buddies and I were fishing for bass down in the Everglades in Florida and catching bass by twitching Gizz 4's on the surface. Several times we had big gators charge our lures. I didn't want to have anything to do with those beasts. We never hooked one, but we didn't give them a chance either.
Caught a muskrat once on a popper – ugly thing - like a drowned rat. Had a close call with a osprey diving on a spook but jerked it away right before it hit into the water . . . but no coyotes – gives a whole new meaning to walking the dog – or - coyote!
Great story!
I was fishing top waters at Okeechobee a couple years ago and had alligators express an interest but once I reeled back a bit faster they last interest. I did hook a baby gator on a crank bait while there; he was about about 18-24" long. I don't know exactly because I got him off at the boat before I had to tangle with him in the boat.
Some good stories.
Once hooked a snake on a popper in Elkhorn right by the bank, didn't see him there and he struck at it when it landed about 2 inches form the bank. Thankfully the **** thing went into its hole by the bank and I broke the line. Didnt want to have to take a snake off the hook while standing in the water!!
Two years ago my son and I were fishing artificial frogs over the moss beds when an owl came out of no where and grabbed by sons frog. He hit the freespool and let the owl fly off with the frog. The owl flew up into a tree and chomped on the frog for about 30 sec. than dropped it to the grown. No harm to the owl or bait.
