    Stoner Creek Today

My buddy and I went and fished Stoner Creek today from about 10am-6pm, put in at Frymans. It was a rough day, water was very stained and muddy in alot of places. I blanked and my buddy caught 2 LM both about 13 inches. Talked to another guy bass fishing who said he had caught a couple small ones but no keeps. I wish Stoner was a better fishery as I live in paris and it is close to home, but I have never had much luck there, usually drive to cumberland, its the closest lake that is decent, but its 1 1/2 hour drive. Anyone have any advice on some decent bass fisheries closer to Paris/Lexington, say within 30-45 minutes? Thanks!

Though Stoner can't compare to Cland, guess I've been lucky to have some good days on the creek this year. Most of the time I do the best between 5am-8am or from 8pm - midnight. Some days it can be real tough. Have you fished Ikes Pool in town, Wood Creek Lake or Cedar Creek, or the KY river down at Boonesboro? All are good places for bass that are closer to Paris than Cumberland. There's also Greenbriar Lake in Montgomery County, but its trolling motor only. Hope this helps.

Both pools will get better as the temps drop. Frymans is a better fishery in the fall (jmo). Try caverun, but get off the main lake.

Hands down that creek was so much better 7-8 years ago. I mean so good it was scary on how many fish could be caught out of there. Things have changed!

Worst year I have had there since fishing Ikes in 12 years. Caught 24 one day but all between 8-11 inches with 2 around 12 or 13. Only three over three pounds and nothing over 4. Spring rains killed my good bite and the long summer made the fish lazy. Prob fished it around 10 times this year starting in March.

Thats the truth. Even back about 15 years ago it was crazy the numbers some people caught in a day, and there were some pigs caught then too. I didn't fish Ikes as much though, surely it was better then as well.

I only really fished Ikes years ago and any time we hit Frymans we were disappointed. Funny how it changed for us and Frymans became the hot spot but now they both are tough when compared to those times. Maybe its just cyclical?

Hi Robbie....I too have had a lot of good fishing days on stoner creek over the years..I find as I have more Birthdays I have to do less and less bass fishing and more and more lazy fishing ...The OP living as close to the creek as he does he prolly shouldn't give up on it too quickly, there are a lot of times when a fella may have just a few hours to fish or limited funds for the trip and stoner is still a good place to spend a few hours on the water if he puts in the time to learn the creek...Look on the bright side, you could go to the creek for a few hours or you could hang out with the wife at walmart.

    Re: Stoner Creek Today

Hey all, haven't been on here in awhile, but I had a question involving "PIGS" in Stoner Creek. I remember seeing a couple bass mounted hanging on the wall at Backwater's in Lexington. I was thinking those fish were in the 8-10lb range and the info on the mount said that they came out of Stoner if I remember correctly. Just wondered if anyone knew the story on those two fish. Also wondered what anyone has heard about the biggest bass coming out of the creek is. I know alot of the older guys that I have talked to over the years have mentioned some big fish being caught there years ago.

I'm not sure about those two fish specifically, but back in the late 90's there were two fish over 10 caught from there confirmed. My brother happened to be fishing the same evening as one of them was caught and got a picture of it for the fella who caught it. Working at the baitshop I heard several stories of bass over 10 pounds being caught throughout the years. The biggest I saw caught this year was JUST shy of 8 pounds, and I lucked up on a 7+ there in June. Three years ago I had one that was in the neighborhood of double digits break me off right at the boat. I have no doubt there are still a few PIGS in there. This is from Fryman's, I have no idea about what has been caught out of Ike's.

Peter and Striper- it is a creek that runs through Bourbon and Clark counties, but its honestly more like a small river with several dams throughout.
The fishing has declined some, mostly because of more people fishing it along with other smaller factors (agriculture, otters, introduction of shad, etc.). IMO it is still a pretty good place to wet a line though.
